Forums - Sales - How Michael Jackson Singstar will boost PS3?

A MegaStar sells more after their death. Just like John Lenon, Elvis, and Sinatra, this will sell absurdly well, if true. After his death, MJ's cds,dvds,BDs sold like crazy, a boost he didnt have for a long while.

PS- IF Sony does this, they'll probalby go with PS3, and maybe PS2. THIS isnt a movie franchise, wich are traded with the developer licenses, not Sony directly (I think, dont remeber that well the laws and such to this). MJ's music and video contend rights are in Sony's posession, so they can do whatever with then, of course, if they pay the contracted amount to the family, wich they will obviously do, unless some legal BS happen.

@Ryusuken

of course Sony *can* do it, the question is *should* then make it exclusive. Sony as a company isn't doing so well and MJ is a huge name. They should make what they can while they can and a game like this would sell far more on Wii (just look at every music genre game).

They should be worried about maximizing profits, not continuing to fund the PS3 when its just not appropriate.

Not really a singing fan or a fan of Singstar, but It will sell, provided that it gets promoted and advertised like there's no tomorrow.

This is the true definition of owning.

@Superchunk

Sorry, but your last comment makes little to no sense, at all. Why should/whould Sony make a game, one that carters for the masses, for the friggin competition????? Do you really think Sony, or Nintendo, or MS WHOULD EVER do that?

And, if Sony is in so much trouble as you think they are, how the heck they can manage a price cut? Even if it was damn straight necessary, they could go making whatever small profit they were making with it before the price cut.

So....making A EXCLUSIVE FOR PLAYSTATION platform with MJ is logical, is maximizing their profits and damn straight saying:

 "YOU WANT IT??BUY A PS2/3 TO PLAY IT!!!!!

PS- did you even know Sony is the developer of SingStar???? Thanks Soriku for point that one.

Last edit, I am out.

It won't boost nothing. Nor does it need, ps3 sales will continue strong even without this game.

Music/rhythm games are not that strong and influential to move consoles. I could see boosting singstar franchise only.

MJ's music is owned by Sony Music. Therefore Sony Music can hire anyone they want to make a game for it. Having Sony's gaming division make a SingStar game is stupid and limiting the potential revenue it could make from having it made on a different developer's label. That is my point. If you and SORIKU are so retarted you couldn't tell that was my point then ... idk really. It should have been obvious I didn't want Sony to make a Singstar game for Wii360.

Just like Spiderman and other Sony owned Movie IP's, let other's make the game and reap the profits. It should not be limited to PS3 userbase in SingStar.

Damn, he just called you retarted, Soriku. lmao

Superchunk, that's like saying no Sony game should be exclusive because they'd make more money making every game multiplatform.

Sing Star: Michael Jackson should sell extremely well on PS3 due to his death, turning him into a forgotten star into a music legend.

Lip-synching Michael Jackson songs should be fun. Lol @ all those people who will be screwing up Michael Jackson's songs due to having terrible voices, bad pitch/tone and failing to reach those near impossible notes. Michael Jackson was an amazing singer/dancer who is now a legend.

Hopefully Rockband and Guitar Hero Michael Jackson games will pop up sooner or later in the future.

Michael Jackson's death has turned into a huge windfall for the music industry and the Michael Jackson estate.

While that may be true, that is not my point on *this* particular product.

MJ is absolutely HUGE! Since Sony owns the rights they could be doing as Soriku suggests and making Singstar for themselves and then shortly afterward allow Rockband or whatever to make a MJ version as well. That would be smart.

But, to only allow a Singstar version on the limited PS3 userbase is a poor business decision imo.

Other general games can and need to be exclusive to cause a need to purchase your hardware, however, with a property like MJ that is a time when maximising potential return is far outweighed by leasing to a 3rd party and swimming in royalties.
