Forums - General - 12 year old has sex change in UK.

Mmm, fat people was a bad example now that I think about it.

The tumor was an example because it's surgery that changes the physical form to be more pleasing to the person using it, removing a tumor, and gender reassignment are similar in this way. Also, I never said it was a deadly tumor.

12 is way too young to take a decision like this... I agree with the post above.

uhh, I think any age is too young to make a decision like this. This is way beyond natural in any sense of the word and rather weird and disturbing.

i wish i could report you for this, it seems like quite a closed-minded thing to say, especially in a day and age when people are free to make decisions regarding their own bodies you might find it wrong for whatever reason but thats no ustification for you to term it "weird and disturbing" for anyone of any age to do it.

OT, i think 12 is definitely young, for physiological and emotional reasons. but the parents clearly know the maturity level of their own child, and if its something he'd been talking about for years it doesnt sound like he chose to do it on a whim. i believe the body is just a tool, to be looked after and used, and some people have the wrong gender of body assigned to them at birth. there's no reason why that shouldn't be corrected if it can be.

(i used to get weirded out by stuff like this, i thought it was disgusting too. then i grew up).

Intolerant of opinions, aren't you?

It's NOT a close minded thing to say. All have opinions and are entitled to them. Unless Nord is going to go cause problems for this family, he's entitled to believe whatever he wants to.

When I was 12, I told all my friends I wanted to be an astromer. I had told them for years. I never became an astronomer, because it ended up passing out of my system. Why and how should a 12 year old be able to make a decision that will affect them for life? I really don't see why this was and is a smart decision. Are the parents free to do this? Absolutely. But that doesn't mean that I shouldn't be free to say they are irresponsible for listening to the whims of their child.

I just hope that if this really takes place with the child, that this is what he really, really, really wants. Because if this isn't the case, it may ruin his life.

nonono, please dont think that.i think i just over-reacted.

sorry nordlead, i know you're entitled to your opinion i just dont think its right to call anyone's life choices "beyond natural, weird and disturbing". is it better for that child to grow up to be gay (not that there's anything wrong with that, either), dressing in women's clothing and always depressed/confused/in denial about his entire life? its clear that he (i sould probably call her "she") had the "inside" of a female, who was just crafted in the wrong body. when the foetus is developing in the womb there are substantial differences between female and male development other than just the physiological body, the shell of existence. iits not that this boy has the mnd of a girl, its that this girl was given the body of a boy.

and mrstickball, i also said 12 is too young. we are agreeing here, you don't need an analogy to illustrate your point to me.

i was going to say the same but i was afraid i would get a ban for that.

If I was a girl I'd be a slut. This is hot.

I think it's fine if that's what's what the kid has felt like for a long time. Age will make the transition way easier, only thing I don't quite get is why they simply didn't change the school.
Frankly, if s/he's had kept telling people about wanting to be a girl, the bullying was probably only about to get worse in the next few years.

It sounds like the kid did this because he was bullied which is a stupid reason to get a sex change.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Sorry, but I can't get behind this. He is 12. If he waited until he was an adult, and then went out and got this done then great, but at 12, it's just too young.

The thing I most have a problem with, is a doctor just made a 12 year old sterile. If a 12 year old has wanted a vasectomy, would that be ok if a doctor did it?

This doctor just did do it.

I think it is great. I knew I was gay when I was 12, most people know they are straight when they are 12, this kid obviously knows she is wired as a girl instead of a guy.

Regardless of what opinion you have formulated, or what you church has told you to the contrary, this sort of gender identity issue is common, and It's probably good that the kid is getting on top of it so early instead of waiting, or denying it all together and then living in misery.

If it was done any later there is more of a chance she would have looked "like a man in drag" like someone said, which only serves the purpose of her getting picked on by small minded people or judged by christians on the street later on in life.

Hopefully it isn't just a case of raging hormones and preteen angst. I'd have waited until he was at least done growing

Well if you guys wanna get philosophical about it gender is determined by society. Some people often forget that gender and sex are two different things. So heres my question, if the society you live in tells you that you aren't masculine or feminine but in another culture it is the opposite, who's to say who's a boy or a girl besides the obvious parts you were born with.
