Blu-ray will catch on even more this Holiday, im guessing. (obviously)
It would be dumb of Sony to not have at least one Blu-ray bundle with the PS3.
What big films are releasing on DVD/BR towards Christmas?

Well, as it becomes the standard, the prices WILL be dropping, so they might be more to your liking in a couple of years......I just hope that we can get the XBOX 720 soon, so that a whole new class of gamers, who form a big part of the Blu ray market will start buying these movies.
Edit: We're also seeing a drop in production software for studios, so the cost to put a movie onto Blu ray is dropping. That will definitely help movie prices as well as help get some smaller studios in on the Blu bandwagon.
Good to hear but i doubt it would have been this high as quickly without ps3

I disagree when special edition DVDs are $25. Since your getting all features in HD plus the movie in HD, $5 more is understandable. There is no "standard" Blu-ray since your "standard" Blu-ray offers more than a special edition DVD.
Also Blu-rays used to cost $49, now they are $29. That is a $20 price difference. They now are not the ripoffs they were as their cost is equal to their value.

Can anyone put a number on how much Sony could stand to profit if Blu-ray ever reached the sales levels of DVD? Like a very rough estimation would suffice!

X:MEn origens: wolverine......This is Spinal Tap..........Original Star Trek series all came out this month..... oh, and I believe that all of the old disney movies like sleeping beuty, pinnochio, etc are coming soon.
How come Bluray disc price is such an issue? Does nobody remember when DVD's were $80? But anyways, shop around a bit, I've never paid more for a bluray, then I would have for a DVD by checking prices first.

They have none at all. They might have developed it but profits are split by the collective body of the BDA, nothing specifically goes directly to Sony.
If they earned money like that Sony and Phillips, who both owns the patents for CDs, would have earned billions on ever CD sold in the world. But they don't, instead any "royalties" for CD go to whatever the collective body is that manage CD standards (probably DVD Forum).
