Whats the price difference between new DVD movies versus Blu ray nowadays?

Normally around $3-5, as long as you get them during the release week.  Unless you buy them online cause they are always cheaper online than B&M stores.  I buy all of my Blu-rays on Amazon.com and never spend over $25 for a movie,  I have even gotten some blu-rays for as cheap as $8.

I tend to wait a few months to buy movies... which means I tend to spend a lot less.  Walmart has some older DVD titles for amazingly low prices.  Why spend $20 for a DVD when you can pay $10?  I'm not in THAT big of a hurry...

a few $bucks different feels the DVD is more a rip off when the blu-ray gives better quality and more content then the DVD collectors.

walmart are now having some blu-ray movies from $9-16 ...sure they're not all blockbuster hits but are still pretty good movies depending on your taste.

The price is part of the equation.  But most of our players are DVD only right now, meaning we can't use those movies on long car trips, at friend's homes, etc.  For single guys who are into mostly blockbuster movies, going all Blu-ray makes a lot of sense if you have the cash.  Otherwise, there are other considerations.

Personally, I hope Blu-ray succeeds... HD visuals are amazing and I'm a movie enthusiast... I have 90 laser disc movies.

Not trying to be negative and all, because I love my Blu-Rays but (yawn) wake me when it penetration hits 40%, until then DVD is not going anywhere.

that's the problem, DVD is not going to go away..because all blu-ray player's still play DVD's. the very fact that Blu-Ray player's can still play Standard DVD's will make Blu-Ray viable no matter what.

Blu-Ray will along with DVD will still be on the market.

DVD was for standard def.

Blu-Ray was for HD def.

because of DVD support Blu-Ray will not fail.

Blu-ray hardware is still lagging behind DVD hardware? Sad. DVD hardware costs as little ast 29.99. Finding a sub $200 blu-ray player is hard. If DVD hardware is still > Blu Ray HW, that means several DVD players get sold to few blu-ray players. It's the price stupid.

Just went to best buy while on my lunch...

Wolverine Xmen origins just came out...its 23.99 on DVD and 39.99 on bluray.
Mind you, DVD has a 2 disc special edition which is 31.99, but if you just want to see the movie, and don't have a 40 inch+ HDTV...why would anyone choose bluray over DVD?

@disolitude : because it's much more beautiful ?

Why do people choose DVD over VHS tape ?

I usually don't reply to new accounts that don't read my posts...but you're special.

How is it more beutiful if you don't have an HD TV?

If you don't have a HDTV then of course not... But they're cheap as dirt now, so why would people wouldn't upgrade...

Latest studies say Bluray adoption rate is faster than DVD adoption rate, so you're the one being 'special' if you think Bluray isn't a success.

Wow,  if prices are that bad out by you than I can understand no one would want Blu-ray but by me the same Blu-ray is 27.99.

Also  Blu-ray does still look better than DVD even on SDTVs,  its just not as big a difference as it is on an HDTV.

Are you accusing m of lying about prices? :)

DVD

Bluray

And saying bluray looks better on SDTV would require one of those GT trailer video comparisons where they show a PS3 and 360 multiplat game side to side. Its not very noticable is what Im saying...

but you would still need a HDTV to gedt the bonus of blu-ray over DVD..but that is also the big point, pretty soon HDTV's penetration will be much higher in the next 3 to 5 year's time it will not matter anyway. Blu-ray will just be as viable than as it is now both DVD and Blu-rAY ARE STILL GOING TO BE ON THE MARKET!. That is the big point for Blu-Ray the very fact that it supports DVD also make's it an upgrade option from DVD to Blu-Ray With the Added feature that Blu-ray's and both Standard DVD's can be played on the same machine. Even though the Adoption of Blu-Ray may seem to be struggling It's not for 1. Blu-Ray has been on the market in one shape or form since 2003 so its a mature format, just like DVD an CD wich are also updated with new function's added to the core technology over time. It's the same with Blu-Ray.

and

2. The transition from analog to digital is also the big point of Blu-ray's future which like Standard DVD Will still be the DEFACTO home movie distribution method due to the fact that Digital distribution rely's on network speed which Blu-Ray and DVD do not. An like already many consumer's still like their movies on a physical media format because many people collect movies. that very problem of collecting is a main problem with digital downloads. Many consumer's do not see it as a viable method for "collecting" that is for pure Value Opinion though many people today see the value of a disc based media as worth more than a digital download.
