but you would still need a HDTV to gedt the bonus of blu-ray over DVD..but that is also the big point, pretty soon HDTV's penetration will be much higher in the next 3 to 5 year's time it will not matter anyway. Blu-ray will just be as viable than as it is now both DVD and Blu-rAY ARE STILL GOING TO BE ON THE MARKET!. That is the big point for Blu-Ray the very fact that it supports DVD also make's it an upgrade option from DVD to Blu-Ray With the Added feature that Blu-ray's and both Standard DVD's can be played on the same machine. Even though the Adoption of Blu-Ray may seem to be struggling It's not for 1. Blu-Ray has been on the market in one shape or form since 2003 so its a mature format, just like DVD an CD wich are also updated with new function's added to the core technology over time. It's the same with Blu-Ray.
and
2. The transition from analog to digital is also the big point of Blu-ray's future which like Standard DVD Will still be the DEFACTO home movie distribution method due to the fact that Digital distribution rely's on network speed which Blu-Ray and DVD do not. An like already many consumer's still like their movies on a physical media format because many people collect movies. that very problem of collecting is a main problem with digital downloads. Many consumer's do not see it as a viable method for "collecting" that is for pure Value Opinion though many people today see the value of a disc based media as worth more than a digital download.
