I have noticed over my years at this site that generally, the majority of the 'most popular games' are on the PS3. Recently however, almost all have been on the Wii, and the change was drastic, pretty much overnight. So I ask the following. Who is it that has made some program to auto refresh on a given game? Also why? :P

you don't need to program anything. Just get firefox and the "auto refresher" plug-in.

EDIT: oh, and both sides (ps3 and wii) are using auto refreshers, no questions asked. I really wish we got rid of "popular games" and sorting in the database based on hits. I think it should be soley sorted by last updated. Then at least if people want games near the top they'll update them.

and I dont think Ps3 fans use auto refreshers. There has never been all ps3 games on the front page and even the really old games that were on the front page still had conversations going

Well, you would be misinformed then. We had 3 games (Halo 3, MGS4, Mario galaxy) all jump from around 70k hits to around 800k hits in a matter of days. We don't even have nearly that many page views to ever acheive something like that. There are extreme fanboys on all sides and I can easily point out people in each camp if you want.

Pressing F5 on a game page for 5 min long can get it pretty high.

That was before the hitters were re-set.

what makes you think that us resetting the numbers actually stopped the fanboys from auto-refreshing?

Honestly like I said, we should remove all indication of page hits. Page hits could be a useful metric to measure interest in a game except ours is skewed so horribly that there is no reason to even pay attention to it. The number of owners and people who have the game on the wishlist can be used to gather information because they can't easily be skewed.
