Forums - Gaming - Why is it that after ten years is the Dreamcast OS still the best?

The Dreamcast's operating system was easily the best of it's generation. Sure the controller may be the worst ever(it came with directions on how to hold it) but the OS was clear and easy to use. Better then anything that came out since. Even better then the 2 MS made after helping develop Dreamcast's OS.

Both current HD systems have good OSs but why is that Dremcast's still seems clearer and more reliable to me? And does snyone else feel this way.

What do you mean OS?

Perhaps the interface and menus when no game is being played, I'm not either.

OS?

Like porting tools you mean? Do explain...

I thought the OS was just very basic and functional. Nothing that stood out, though.

What surprises me more is, that there are so many people who disliked the DC controller. In my opinion, that was one of the most ergonomically shaped console controller ever, though the smaller Xbox/normal 360 controller is great as well (of course ignoring the D-Pad)

Sorry. You guys are right. I meant menu interface and general way it handled loading of games.

For those of us not awesome enough *rolls eyes* to have owned a DreamCast, could you elaborate? Or should we go stand in the corner of shame?

What was so bad about the controller?

Everyone I knew that used it was comfortable with it.

The controller literally tried to twist your hands off by putting a grip at the bottom. It came with instructions on how to hold it?! You had to put wire into a holder on the cvontroller so not to break it. The menu system was Windows based and would let you escape the game from the controller, kept track if the game was in the system or not(something sony can't seem to do properly still). Basically what we have now but a little simpler and easier to use.
