I don't see how saying Obama is lieing is racism.

I mean... illegal immigrants currently do benefit from public healthcare... so unless there are new reforms to kick them out of the healthcare programs i don't see how you could say he is telling the truth.

Also claiming the reason people don't want universal healthcare is racism.... that's not going to fly with moderates.

It's more that people would rather have the crappy system we have... then an equal crappy if not worse system that will cost more money.

Also he said that Obama should be treated with respect like the Queen of England... which.  I'd say the Prime Minister would be more appopriate...

Anyway, I think the real situation is that Republicans statistically are more likely to be prominent in southern states and so are likely to be the ones who oppose a universal healthcare system. I think the fact that these states have had a history of racism is a mere coincidence.

It's as highwaystar says^ people just make the connection between the deep south and racism and the republicans get labeled as racist- though without a doubt it is sometimes true.

in this case I think carter's taking it too far. Wilson's actions do show a degree of dickitude that should not be present in a Congressman, but i think his outburst was based on misinformation rather than racism. He's no nixon yet
