These characters have been portrayed so nicely. I remember back to the pokemon red days when even though it was crap graphics, the game was just so perfect in what it did. It's no surprise that it became a mass media icon.
I especially like this girl, Whitney, from HeartSilver
It looks like battles still take place on top of poffins though....
