Forums - Sales - Nintendo: "Currently no plans" for Wii price cut

@Alby: The fact that Wii has hit its 3rd worst week ever should be worrying for Nintendo, considering that sales will still be going down this week.

Momentum has slowed dramatically from last year, so if they don't worry then the lower the Wii interest gets, the harder it will be for them to regain it.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Which is why NSMB Wii and Wii fit Plus are coming out, to regain interest

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Folks, again, this is a lot of double-talk and parsed speech by a EU/UK Nintendo official about something leaked in the US.

Currently no plans means not today. It may or may not mean not next week.

And I doubt Toys R Us would be doing this without something from Nintendo.

I hate to repeat things, but Wii Fit+ won't create any new interest at all. The game is still the same Wii Fit with ew activities. A game that has been on shelves for more than a year and half, that is now more expensive will not generate interest. New games do generate more interest, repackaged software does not, even if it includes more content.

Price cut rumours: Deny, deny deny. (X,Y or Z)
Few weeks later: X, Y or Z announces price cuts.
X,Y or Z Fanboys we never expected that to happen.

I have a feeling of de ja vu' in regards to Nintendo denying the price cuts. They do not want people to stop buying Wiis and just wait for the $200 Wii.

So Toys R' Us and Wal-Mart both just coincidentally are having price roll backs on Wii hardware?

This is going to be a price cut all across North America, guys, deal with it already.

We went through this exact same pattern with the Sony/MS price drops -- flyer leaks, followed by denials from some PR rep.

They're not going to come out and say "oh yeah, you guys busted us, we are cutting our price two weeks from now". You guys should know the drill by now, sheesh.

Except a few things, one if the price cut is true, even if its only temporary or retailer led promotion, we'll see a $50 cut coincide with Wii fit + release, even if what you says is true,  it will drive hardware sales when coupled with a price cut, at least long enough to get up to the NSMB Wii launch, which will drive sales even more.

But that's not a SW solution then like you implied. They would be cutting the price, which I think is the correct thing to do in the current situation.

WF+ would not be providing the boost. It would be the other way around. More Wii sales due to price cut would mean Wii Fit+ sales will see a boost.

Read what I wrote, only if what you say is true, that Wii Fit plus won't push hardware, I disagree that it won't push hardware, i think it will, with or without a price cut,  but for the sake of not getting bogged down in speculation I'm not going to argue that point with you, since we'll have confirmation about most of these things in a few weeks so then we can see what happens.

Yeah I agree, we should just take the wait and see stance since we are so close to the WF+ release and the rumored price cut. I'm just trying to see it from the most logical point of view IMO.
