Forums - Gaming - NPD: Cross-ownership figures (Wii and 360 owners shun PS3)

These are huge numbers. I mean, around half of the people owning a console owns more than 1? Freaky!

The problem we have (as Scottie pointed out) is the sample group is highly skewed. I remember reading an article a year ago that said that the average console owner is VERY unlikely to own any other system. But this data at least gives us a glimpse into the world of folks who go online for gaming news.

probably has a lot to do with the price

I think if you can buy a PS3 you probably have more disposable income :)

This is so fucking ridiculous. Its beyond hypocracy that fanboys talk down the Wii as casual while they own one.

Well it just goes to show, the majority of them are red terror fascists repeating the gospel of their big corporate slave masters. They don't actually hate the Wii and they even admire it enough to pay 250$ for it.

Next question, how many bought their HD machine after the Wii?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Wow.

I'm surprised that 42% of people with an HD console also own a Wii.

Funny anecdote about playing card games online: I know a PS3 owner who is under a lot of pressure from his friends to get a 360... so that he can play Uno with them online.

 Yeah.

I own a PS3 and only a PS3. I used to love 360 with halo 3 and gears 1. Might borrow it again for the new halo game. Not enough games to warrant a buy. The Wii I found fun for the night that I played it but I never got the impression that I would want to play it very often.

I only play my PS3 about 2 hours a week so I don't really game enough to have all consoles. Had them all last gen and only played PS2. Xbox was brilliant but I just got all the games on PS2. Gamecube was the biggest waste of money ever. Played it for about 10 hours I'd say. Nintendo first party games don't apply to me so I will never buy a Ninty console again. Gone a bit off topic.

Isn't the percentage thing kind of obvious when the PS3 has a LOT smaller install base in US.

Interesting. PS3 owners are the most likely to own multiple consoles. I wonder what that says about the PS3.

I think the standard reply is that PS3 owners are older and have more disposable income.

Which is wierd since at least one NPD report had PS3 owners as the poorest.

Most people who don't like the Wii own one or did at some point, I thought.

That just means they got second jobs.
