Question says it all. This isn't a debate or a complex study of factual existing evidence. This is an opinion poll minus the poll.

Simply, based on his hackneyed approximations on the flow of video games as an investment, I'm lead to believe that the man doesn't know a lick about games. Granted he has access to inside info but that doesn't mean he play's the game that he gets payed to talk about.

I don't see how he can be an avid game player given all the idiotic things he says. I'm not going to go back and read all his mindless drivel but at times he speaks about different games and consoles as if he has never seen or touched one. It's one thing to be financially wrong in your predictions... It's entirely another when you aren't even familiar with the hardware, games, and genres.

Yes. He owns at least a Wii, i think all systems. Just watch Gametrailers show regularly, he do know a lot about games.

I thought I saw an interview with Michael Pachter where he said that he wasn't much of a gamer and his analysis was primarily a business analysis and was not (necessarily) focused on the quality of the systems as game machines.

I'm paraphrasing (of course) but when I read the interview it made it clear as to why his analysis was often so wrong; if you look at the systems and ignore how fun or interesting their games will be it makes it impossible to understand how well they will actually sell.
