Sears has a smoking deal on an LG 42LB5D LCD 1080P HDTV.  The best price I could find the TV was about $1500 but sears has it on sale for $1099.  In addition, by using my sears credit card, I got another $150 off the price.  So, basically, I got a very high quality set for 950 bucks...

Now, onto gaming... what do I need for my Wii and for my 360 to get the best experience from both?  My 360 is the older model without HDMI.  The 360 comes with RGB component but is there a better way?  I don't think the component cables support 1080P though I don't really care.  If it only hits 720 that is fine.   I only went 1080P  because the price is so agressive and I want to use my computer on it...  Otherwise I would have just gotten a 720P vizio 42" for $900 at Sams.

does the tv have a VGA in ? in that case this might be the best option for your 360 and the Wii should be connected with component cables

 EDIT: just looked it up - your TV does have VGA in - but you should wait for someone who actually owns a 360 to confirm ,that VGA is the best way for you to hook up the 360

Sitting too close or too far will lessen the effect.

Yes, it has a VGA in... It also has a "PC" mode setting for every input which eliminates overscan.

 I'll be right in the middle of that range... 7-9 feet roughly....

Nice pickup. I've been researching HDTVs nonstop for about the past three months and I can't make a decision.

Right now I'm leaning toward the Vizio 50" plasma but that's not a certainty by any means.

The wife recently gave me permission to buy a new TV around my birthday (early December) so I've got a bit of time to think about it some more.

Congrats, KN. I would love to get an HDTV, but right now I'm looking for a new job, so that's not feasible. However, my projector rocks, but I get tired of setting it up and taking it down (my son loves to run around my manspace) so I know I want to get an LCD bigger than my 22" one I game on now.

And ... the 360 DOES support 1080p via component/VGA cables. My projector stops at 1080i, but I did notice that setting on the 360 after a couple updates ago.

 Yes, this is my first HD set.  This particular deal is smoking.  Maybe too smoking.  I placed my order with Sears yesterday but it appears that they have taken too many orders for what they can deliver.  I have a little order sheet that shows I ordered it, but whether or not they get enough stock to fill the order is now in question.  If I don't get this deal, I'm going to be pissed.  It is out of stock nationwide.   This is a higher-end 1080P 42" LG LCD that has a 5MS response time and a lot of cool features for $950.  It's pretty much a black friday-level deal happening right now....  I'm going to go nuclear if they fall down on me as I did a lot of research, read the owners manual, etc. to make sure it would fit my various needs -- including a lengthy demo at the store in both SD and HD...   The pissy part is that they won't even take an order now and they "sale" lasts until the 20th of October...  What good is a sale if they have no stock and won't take any more orders?
