Forums - Nintendo - Will Spirit Tracks get delayed?

God, people need to stop calling Captain Rainbow a bomb. There is simply no way they were expecting good sales from that game, what with the rushed announcement, subpar tech and minimal advertising. Not saying it's a bad game, I haven't tried it, but it's about as obscure as they get. I'm positive they were never planning on releasing it outside of Japan, and I'm also positive they weren't expecting sales to be much higher than they currently are.

Sorry for going off-topic.

My only worry is that they still haven't given a firm release date for the game. GameStop has it in their system with a placeholder date sometime in December of all months. It's as if it's on the verge of getting pushed into 2010.

At least NSMBW has a date.

if you find out whether it will be delayed or not would you post here so i can find out? ^_^

I thought NSMBWii's date was only speculation that came out of that GameStop conference.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo doesn't hype their games anymore. After The release of SSBB, there hasn't been any game which received much media attention.

I don't know why they do this, but in the case of smaller titles they have all bombed in Japan. Maybe it's time for them to care a little about their games as well.

Phantom Hourglass didn't get a whole lot of hype either, and it's on the slow road to five million copies sold.

@Khuutra: I was responding to Mr Khan by saying Nintendo doesn't give much info about their games anymore, which doesn't mean it's being delayed.

In case you missed it, I was talking specifically about the smaller games, so unless you consider Zelda to be a small franchise your reply wasn't meaningful at all.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Considering that you're in a topic about Spirit Tracks, a non-sequitur about larger Nintendo trends and how this relates to sales for smaller games is less relevant to the topic than my post was.

I do not expect Spirit Tracks to be delayed. I don't remember Phantom Hourglass getting any more media exposure than this game has had.

I also expect Spirit Tracks to sell less than Phantom Hourglass - maybe doing about 3 million. Don't know why I expect this, though.

Hmmm, sales should be pretty similar. WindWaker sold about the same Phantom Hourglass sold, and they had the art style in common. Spirit Tracks will sell about 4 - 4.5 million as well. Maybe a little less, but nothing considerable in the big picture.

@Soleron: Then they get terrible results.

Examples:

Disaster: DoC (Bombed in Japan and Europe, and didn't get released in the USA allegedly because of the poor sales in the other regions)

Takt of Magic (Bombed in Japan, isn't even planned for a release outside)

Trace Memory R (Bombed in Japan and Europe, isn't planned for a release in the USA)

Excitebots (Bombed in the USA and isn't planned for a release outside. Australian retailers said they don't think the game is worth occupying shelf space)

Punch Out (Bombed in Japan and Europe, did decent in the USA. Only 1 Australian retailer showed interest in selling the game)

Metroid Prime Trilogy (Bombed in Europe and in the USA it's beeing severely overtracked. Sold less than 50k according to NPD (because it's outside the top 20 and the 20th game sold about 50k))

Captain Rainbow (Bombed badly in Japan, not planned for a release outside)

Fatal Frame 4 (Although it sold on par with the previous entrances in Japan, the game barely had any ads. Not planned for a release in Europe or the USA)

There could be more cases.

i was actually intrested in takt of magic. Most if not all games you list there are good games, specially punch out and metroid prime trilogy are great games. There is nothing wrong with nintendo and its games, i for one think that they have a good supply of casual and core games. Whats wrong is people dont buy nintendos games. People bitch and whine about how bad all the games on the nintendo console are and that they want something good, then when something good gets released  no one buys it.

There are many other examples, (i'm not saying these games are all 10/10, but they are good, if not great games)

Battalion Wars 2, okami, madworld sure it has its flaws but its a good game. Little Kings story is another one. So there is no problem in the quality of the games on the Wii (there might be a higher crap to good ratio than the ps360)

edit: i dont mean nintendo games as in link mario etc, but games of the nintendo console. Wii games.

Nintendo certainly doesn't show as much interest in their core games as they used. Probably because they see they don't matter and are all too happy to abandon them.
