Forums - Gaming - Small Post Count = Unfairly Discriminated Against

Fine, I'll be helpful, since I'm so nice (but you could probably tell that from my post count )

The reason for this is that somebody with several thousand posts is clearly not a huge troll, or they would have been permabanned by now, or at least learnt a lesson from their bans. The exception is if they have negative VG$. Thus, if they say something controversial, it can be dismissed as a joke, or a one-off.

People with low post counts do not have that luxury. People are not used to seeing them post, so if they make a fanboyish/troll post, people could think that is their regular posting style and call them out on it. If, before Rol become famous, somebody with 100 posts made a Rol thread, do you think he would possibly avoid a ban? It was because Rol's threads were so uncharacteristic that they were hilarious, and never ended up getting him moderations.

I like the way I was treated by in my early days with a much lower post count waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than I am now with 6,000+ posts.

Once you get a high post count, you get a reputation that you can never, ever change. And if that reputation is a troll, you're really going to discriminated against. People with smaller post counts have it very easy, lol. If I could do it all over again and be in that position again, I would do it in an instant. Heck, I would trade accounts with Diablerie right now if he wanted. Anything not to be Riot of The Blood anymore.

That's not entirely true. It's the negative VG$ that REALLY kills your reputation- even a new member looks at negative VG$ and thinks "troll".

I think this thread demonstrates my point fairly well:

If Rol made that thread, or even me, would we be bashed as much? No, because (hopefully) it would be quite clear that we weren't serious.

^ Now I see why you have over 10k posts

jk...you godly man!

I don't usually try to call someone out because of a low post count.

However, it does happen where someone who has a low double-digit (or single digit) number of posts will make a statement that could be either (a) innocent ignorance or (b) premeditated trolling. When that happens, I do sometimes make reference to it.

And I think that is what most people here do. Unfortunately, since (b) seems to be on the rise, (a) sometimes gets misinterprted more often than it should.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Absolutely negative VG$ is not a very positive sign. I can normally see past it but on the whole the negative value coupled with the item posted in my experience tend to match.

Trolling is trolling, whether it's ignorant or willing. Everybody really should read the Forum Rules before posting for the first time, but nobody ever will

@tedster: What, you didn't think I'd posted in 10,000 different threads, did you?

EDIT: Have I proved how easy it is to raise your post count?

I've been "posting" a lot in those "QUALITY THREADS" like the "You're Banned" thread so my post count is artificially higher than 500 and should be more like 30.

See post counts can trick you.

The most obvious and I am loathe to call it a problem I see with the forum is that PS3 owners seem to outnumber all other forum members combined. This often leads to the 360 post being overwhelmed with trollish like posts. I say loathe because this is possibly entirely a perspective thing and a PS3 owner may well say the same thing about the 360 owners.

Based on my observations I believe that Wii/PS3 posters are about equal in number, but PS3 posters post a lot more. Also, I believe that we have more PS3 wannabe hackers who like to mess with polls and such, and also throw on we probably get more PS3 guests overall due to PS3 being more "hardcore" which is typically the type of person who is browsing videogame news on the internet.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
