Forums - Gaming - 10 Dreamcast Games Still Worth Playing Today

I think Capcom vs. SNK is the best 2D fighter on the DC.

As others have said, PSO and Shenmue should be up there, also Ikaruga.

This reminds me, I haven't got Jet Grind Radio yet. It's nice to see Dreamcast get some love, it totally deserves it.

Umm...While Capcom vs SNK is a fun game it shouldn't even be in the 10 best figters list. It is unbalanced to a point that its broken. This is what happens when you have so many fighters from so many games all just put together with duct tape. Alpha series, SF2 Turbo, MvsC, Guilty Gear, King of Fighters...are all better games.

I don't think Capcom VS SNK is even played anymore at fighting game tournaments... All other street fighters are however.

Umm...Power Stone?

Soul Calibur? Honestly why would you play Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast, especially with that pad (it was great back in 1999 though) when you can play the newest version which is far superior and the same all at once? Same thing with the football game, Sega GT and Dead or Alive. Yeah, they're all nice to play still, but nothing special. I'd mention UNIQUE experiences you can enjoy TODAY on a Dreamcast (examplse are on the list: Toy Commander, Jet Grind) Other examples: Power Stone, Chu-Chu Rocket, Metropolis Street Racer (Now that's an unique racer), and Shenmue.

It's too bad the Dreamcast controller sucked so bad.(Almost as bad as the Dual Shock 1/2) Going from an awesome Saturn controller to the DC one was just ughhh...

i liked the control - sure, it was huge, but it had the triggers - one of the primary reasons why i prefer the 360 pad over the DS3.

and the lack of powerstone on this list is disturbing...

um..stuff

wheres shenmue? wheres code veronica?

  • JSR - Good game but I thought there was a good sequel to on another system?
  • Crazy Taxi - It's fun but...meh?  Nothing worth owning a DC and hunting down and paying for a copy of Crazy Taxi for.
  • NFL2k1 - Assuming there's still online to play for this game, why would I play this over any of the new Madden's again?
  • Sega GT - I know nothing about most racers so I just won't comment.  :-p
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - Now that it's available for download, there's just no point in playing it on the DC.
  • Sonic Adventures - Why would I play this when I can play a better Sonic easier (Genesis ones on any current system)?
  • Toy Commander - Don't know this game.
  • Soul Calibur - Unless you're playing for nostalgic purposes, there's no reason to play this game today.
  • Skies of Arcadia - Luckily RPG's don't always go out of style...unless they have bad 3D (I'm looking at you FFVII).
  • Dead or Alive 2 - See Soul Calibur

I honestly don't understand why people have this insane attachment to the Dreamcast.  I understand liking it for the nostalgic purposes but other than that, it's not that awesome.

virtua fighter is also lacking, it is the first 3D fighter and often considered the best of its time, above tekken, soul calibur and dead or alive(which sucks)

Soul Calibur is a good choice. It is still the most balanced Soul Calubur, the second one has framerate issues, and the third is unbalanced, and the fourth is just trying to be a party fighter. It also works best with the Dreamcast controller (At least to me)

NFL2K2 and that racing game should not be on that list. Aside from sports and racing games sucking, games in both those genres are not timeless and ages very badly (Except the mutant league games, those are the only exception)

I played Shenmue today just to relax after getting home (the game is very slow-paced, it's the ultimate anti-stress game) before I got on my computer, so that game should definately be on there.

Marvel vs Capcom2 is also a good choice. The best version is still on Dreamcast (The Downloadable version on the current-gen systems is actually inferior)

I don't know about dead or Alive 2 though. Are the sequels good?

I LOVE ICELAND!
