Forums - Microsoft - Perfect Dark Zero 2 - Microsoft's next big gun?

A third console instalment in Rare's Perfect Dark franchise will be revealed sometime next year, claims a report on Indian games site GameGuru.

The sight, claiming sources within Rare, says the British developer is hard at work on a sequel to the original N64 shooter (rather than another PDZ-style prequel) and it'll have something to show of the game by the end of next year.

According to Guru, story will feature a lot heavier this time around, with a Darker, gritter Joanna Dark. "The entire game has tints of grey surrounding all the characters," it says.

Interestingly, a new morality system is also claimed, with different story branches and endings depending on your in-game actions. With the 360 launch game's decent sales - and space left to fill now that Halo's done and dusted - we're totally expecting a new Perfect Dark to roll around eventually. This time though, we're hoping it's not as disappointing as Zero - Microsoft; let Rare get on with it.

Too bad Rare hasn't made a great game since the n64 days.

I wasn't very impressed with the previous part, but then again it was a launch title (=rushed), and the first (?) one is pretty famous. I'm pessimistic about this game, but not decisively so.

Oh they haven't?
Oh okay. I enjoyed every single game they released so far for the Xbox consoles:

Conker: Live and Reloaded for the Xbox
Grabbed by the Ghoulies for the Xbox
Kameo: Elements of Power for the Xbox 360
Perfect Dark Zero for the Xbox 360

Like every single game that they made for the Xbox brand, no problems here with me.

As a 360 owner, unfortunately I must admit my interest level is at zero.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Ya, honestly, Rare really dropped the ball in the past 5 years or so. Their games are nowhere near the level they once were. And seriously, PDZ was a pretty shitty game for real. I don't have high hopes for the next installment.

Just kiss the tip.

I have high hopes. I loved the original Perfect Dark. PDZ was a serious disappointment though. I hope they bring the magic back.

I'm sorry W29, but PDZ was horrendous, I personally can't stand that game.

Grabbed by the Ghoulies, though may be one of your favorites (I have never played the game myself) was bashed left and right by critics.

Xbox Live Gamertag - Deathscythe X

AIM SN - Alexie Di Onie

I want a remake of the original Perfect Dark! I'm tired of pulling out the N64 whenever I wanna get a fix. PDZ was good but the corny voice acting gave the story a cheesy feel to it.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

How is it you list every game they've made for the XBOX except Viva Pinata? Possibly the only good one. -_-
