People still ignore the Wii, I guess it makes them sleep better at night :)


Anb game of the year deserves to be scribblenauts. Now that's a new and fresh awesome game.

All those games mentioned are sequels with nothing new than better graphics. Talk about evolution.

Personal preferences aside, ROFL here is just wrong.  Uncharted generally scored in the high 80's, main series Mario Bros games....not sure there is one that was ever scored that low. 

I'm not saying U2 won't win GOTY but to say that NSMBW has no chance is silly and shortsighted given the heritage of the two franchises.

 

For a 2D platformer to win GOTY it'd have to be something entirely unique and amazing like LittleBigPlanet. NSMB Wii looks and plays identically to a DS game released 4 years ago. I'm sure it will win a few awards based on nostalgia and name alone, but realistically it doesn't stand much of a chance.

But for an action game that looks and plays like a game released 2 years ago it's ok?  They're both sequels... so isn't that sort of expected?

Practically speaking I think Okey is correct in terms of NSMBW being awarded game of the year. 

As far as critical reviews go i think NSMBW has a fair chance of being rated higher than U2 and this is why i took exception to Rafi's ROFL. However, unless its reviews and Meta score are exceptionally high, and despite inevitable nomination i agree it's unlikely to actually get game of the year from very many publications.

Right now my projected GOTY favorites are:

1. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
2. Assassin's Creed 2
3. Uncharted 2

First AC is probably the most dissapointing game i played this generation, if they fix all the issues it could be amazing (but they would have to fix A Lot)

I love how when people make threads like this, you can bet your bottom dollar that all the games they list as GOTY contenders will be based around the concept of running to an area, shooting whoever you find there, running to another area, shooting those people. And don't try to claim that shooting lightning from your fingers is different btw :P

Modern Warfare 2 just seems to be Modern Warfare reshelled and I don't see it being as highly rated as the first.

My personal pick for game of the year is *Drum Roll* Batman: Arkham Asylum. This is the only game this year that i just wanted to play, and continue to play even after I beat it. I found the all the aspects of the game to stay fresh throughout he game and never even get near being repetitive. Plus all the riddles and challenge rooms added stuff outside of the campaign for me to enjoy. 

I also think that maybe Halo 3:ODST also has a chance to get a game of the year. the single player campaign looks to be a massive overhaul from the third. Along with being able to play co-op with a couple of friends is a massive bonus. Plus combined with all the multiplayer maps as well as the new Firefight mode is mking this game look like way more than just a simple expansion pack


I agree about Killzone 2, but you already knew that. I hope you brought your flame suit!

Why no love for RE5? I have played through that game 9 times! And I am not exaggerating, I think it should at least get a mention. I am also looking forward to ODST and I feel it will be close to my GOTY!

 

I'm curious, have you played Killzone 2?

Oh yes, I played it. I sent Dsister a diatribe describing the lack of words to describe just how much I disliked that game. We'll just say I didn't care for the gameplay, and the color palatte put me to sleep.

by dsister defenition haze was better FPS because it have a 4 player co op.
there is online co op against bots on kz2.
imo the only thing halo 3 have it's co op over kz2.
graphics, quality, physics, animations, resolution, particles, shaders, sounds, its kz2 win.

I am sure that Haze is a much funner game than Killzone 2. I mean bad game is always funnest with your buddies around to play with you. That is why I had so much fun with Earth Defense 2017.

In my opinion the only thing that Killzone 2 has over Halo 3 are the graphics.

Because people like to hate on great games. With Uncgated it was always.."I dont like those type of games" With KZ2 it was " it feels too heavy and I dont like the controls" Even though both were changeable.
