Splitscreen on the Wii doesn't work well. Too hard to point the cursor at a small screen.

There are actually four or five fps's with split screen, unfortunately only one of them is good (Metroid Prime Trilogy), and even that's not fantastic for multiplayer.

And for the record, Gansitos taste terrible!
That said, I do share some of his sentiment. It's too bad that Activision's essentially repackaging a two year old game with some downgrades, all for full price. The inclusion of Squad Mate is pretty nice, but it's a bummer they didn't add local multiplayer. If they had, I probably would have bought this (I'm starving for a local FPS on ANY system right now).
But I was serious about the Gansitos. Those things are nasty.
