Forums - Gaming - Will Aion be the Death of WOW???

So much hate on Aion, it won't be the death of Wow. It will be one of the most successful Korean mmo's ever. It will make a profit and have a nice amount of active players in the west.

With those many pre-orders...Aion will do well in the first month..but 3 months later...

I'm thinking that too. Warhammer online started with 1.2 sales and is only left with 300.000 paying clients. Aion will probably go the same way.

It's not a bad business model...sell your retail to pay for development cost, and get to break even...then maintain the suer base of 300K...

Not bad sure, but not good either. I don't think the makers of Warhammer online set out to get that number. The production value of it was AAA. They were aming for far bigger clientnumbers.

I really doubt that 1.2 million retailsales alone earned back the development costs. At this point with subscriptions fees, they may have hit break-even and have some profits. An mmo is rather expensive.

WHAT!!!!

I never knew PC games apart from SIms could do these numbers......do you think it can take down WOW?

Dude... World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King did 2.8M copies on the first day.

World of Warcraft has NOTHING to worry about, lol.

Even if it is the death of WoW i think that WoW will be classed as a success anyway lol

Proud PLAYSTATION PHAT owner

No it wont I guess. All Blizzard games I have played had a really gigantic addiction factor I never experienced before. I never played WOW for a reason dont wanna waste to much time on a game. Diablo 1 and 2 Warcraft 1-3 and Starcraft were extremly well balanced even today I think that Starcraft is the best RTS Game ever made. Warcraft 3 was the RTS with the best Storymode ever. Diablo 1 and 2 those Games were unbelievable I played Diablo 2 a couple of 1000 hours never did that before and after that. It was the Items which you could easily trade for a lot of money on ebay in the first 3 years and the Ladder Mode or the Chase after Items which most of the players are never going to find because they are so rare.

WOW has not the Crown b/c of the Graphics. I never saw people this addicted on a game ever before. Its like a drug to some of them.

LOL...I'm sure they didn't, but I think retail sales to-date has probably netted them enough revenue to breakeven on developmental cost of WAR.  The subs now are delivering profits for sustainment and profits.  Bioware now has cog over it all, so we will see how that works out, and If EA will break off reporting of MMO into a separate category.

It'll be like sting like a bee to Wow, but it won't kill it.

I heard AION will be launching with it's first expantion pack.  That's dope.  I hate MMO's that launch when they are practically still beta.

another warhammer online... but we'll see

Nope too many WOW players are way to addicted to ever quit playing! haha

Long Live SHIO!
