 I had a funny discussion a few months back with 2 friends. Both are casual gamers(everyone on this forum is hardcore IMO), one loves Guitar Hero, the other is a pretty big ps2 fan....probably buys a budget game a month and a 4 new full priced ones a year.

 The Heavenly Sword commercial comes up and the commercial says "only for PS3." GH kid laughs and says who the fu** owns a PS3.  Other kid says "Yeah I know.....I knew like 3 kids at my college (a Boston college) that had PS3's and they all traded them for XBOX's." I said (knowing they were casual) "Well they are releasing a $400 PS3 next month" they asked why and I told them about the BC and immediatly GH kid laughed was like "well then Im not buying a PS3" and the other kid agreed.

 It is interesting to get perspectives from non hardcore gamers. If you come on this forum you get a lot of ideas about what masses want based on a bunch of hardcore gamers and fanboys.

 I always thought that the 40 gig would do really really wel but I am not so sure anymore.

Random anecdote:

Ironically enough, I have a good friend who was a major PS3 fanboy.  We used to talk about the Wii vs PS3.  360 was a non-issue since he owned one of them already.  All he talked about was how great the graphics were, how mindblowing the PS3 was, and how great it was.  Literally.  He was the spitting image of a Sony/PS3 fanboy.

He was absolutely going to buy a PS3 and laughed at a third friend of ours who bought a Wii.

Fast forward a few months.  He no longer cares about the PS3.  He no longer wants to purchase one at any rate.  He has built a new computer and is now very much a PC/360 gamer.

This guy went from hard-core PS3 fanboy to PC gamer/cares nothing about the PS3. 

Sony is losing fans... and customers.

I haven't seen much - if any - promotion for the 40Gig in Australia. I walk past an EB everyday to work, and it doesn't have any front window space (taken by GHIII, BBA/Wiimote bundle & DS bundle at the moment).

$700AU for a console in Australia is *still* friggin expensive. The 360 has started advertising for half the price. The $999 PS3 deal is still much better - extra controller, BC, hard disk space - and THREE games.

The Wii still creams it - at $380AU for Wii (+ WiiSports), or $420 + game.

You can also buy the PS2 + game for around $220.

People who want a PS3 for a premium price already have one - selling a crippled PS3 for a slightly-lower premium price isn't going to help much.

i don't know what the hell sony was thinking... no one ever wanted the 20gb(is it even offered anywhere now?) so who's gonna want this one? i think it might've been even better to just bring the 20gb back...

Diomedes hmmm...in meristation ( a spanish videogame site) we have a sony troll with the same name, famous for been a bit to loyal to sony and negate evidence, i hope it´s not the same one, i like this forums and the people here...


Here in Spain, the ps3 will probably sell very very well, many people want to buy it; one of my friends want a ps3 or xbox but didn´t know about BC or Blue Ray... (not even that 360 has BC); its all about brand here, and sony still has a strong one
