Forums - Sales - How Many People Bought the PS3 Slim As A Blu-Ray Player?

Just curious as to how many people who bought the PS3 Slim, bought it as a stand alone Blu-Ray player or a spare PS3 Slim that will sit in the closet?

I ask this only because even though the PS3 Hardware sales increased 409%, the software only increase 16% and none of the PS3 Top Games (Infamous, MGS4, Uncharted (bundled), Killzone 2 or Ratchet & Clank) sold in the Top 20 last week. Makes me wonder if people bought the PS3 as a cheap Blu-Ray player. Especially in Europe as Blu-Ray is king in that region and the PS3 Slims sold the most there as I predicted it would. Your thoughts.

I doubt very many. A cheaper blu ray player isn't something exciting that you run out and buy week one. I can only imagine gamers, or Apple fans, doing that.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

My friend did. I kept pushing Blu-Ray to her. She got a PS3 slim last week and like 10 Blu-Ray movies, no games. I'm guessing she will eventually buy games just not now.

Now Playing: Crysis 2

Last Finished: BulletStorm

Online IDs: PSN: computermaximus, XBL: computermaximus

You are on the wrong forum to ask this. Try a videophile forum.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

i'd hope not. There are better blu-ray players now.

I suspect that a decent number of people bought it for the multimedia features, but will expand to playing games later.

Yes, I know that as well. My concern is the best PS3 games ever didn't crack the TOP 20 mark and one of them was a bundle. Why weren't at least 100K copies of MGS4 or Killzone 2 sold out of the 500K+ PS3 Slims purchased? That's less then 20%I know if I was purchasing a PS3 Slim as my first PS3, Killzone 2, Uncharted, Infamous and LPB would probably be the first 4 games I bought. By the way, I already own 3 of those 4 titles. I just don't get it though. These games didn't even crack the 50K mark which is even more shocking.

you would know the "best" ps3 games? People take time to get aquainted with a new console before purchasing a crazy amount of games for it. I bought a slim too but I've owned a ps3 since a few months after launch so I didn't buy any software. There are lots of people like me. Ps3 isn't the best idea for a blu-ray player anymore.

For about 500 you can get a blu-ray player that matches the ones that cost multiple thousands.

According to SSJ anyway... and he's the biggest blu-ray nut I know.
