Bear in mind that the sample tested was at higher than retail clocks. Still, it should be faster than a GTX295. With a quarter of the silicon area (336mm^2 vs. 1152mm^2).

Even better is the simultaneous launch of all of the Evergreen parts - low-end to high-end - except for the X2. But since a 5870 is faster than a GTX295 then an X2 is the least important part and you can just buy two anyway.
