Forums - General - New Michael Moore Movie - "Capitalism: A Love Story

Yay?

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810045454/info

"The as-yet-untitled film will explore the root causes of the global economic meltdown and take a comical look at the corporate and political shenanigans that culminated in what Moore has described as "the biggest robbery in the history of this country" -- the massive transfer of U.S. taxpayer money to private financial institutions."

I like michael moore but why is he bashing capitalism? Is Michael moore a communist?

Oh Michael Moore. He really does love to stir the pot. I'm sure there is some backing to this but I really not to excited when completely one sided people such as him do things like this. Just hard to really get a good premise with all the spin. It's like if O'Reilly were to make a movie.

However I would say Capitalism is more of a love story with the people rather than government and business. It's something all Americans can't stand yet we cherish the ideology as our own. Given most of America's complaints about big business, controlling of monopolies, job insurance, competitive wages, etc... and all of this being asked of the government, I'm pretty sure they would be more content of a system that didn't follow laizzes-faire capitalism so strongly as described by Adam Smith in the Wealth of Nations.

But of course the political culture around the free market is so saturated over time that it is almost seen as un-American to do other wise. Thus it's quite a love story with the ideology yet a complete hatred towards everything it brings. Almost the same thing really with liberties. Americans want their liberties and freedoms guaranteed yet would so easily give it up to the government for security such as after 9-11 for the better of the nation. Of course the mentality of the country after that was very nationalistic and very close to fascism on some of the extremes but of course suggesting that American actions are so far from the ideology doesn't fair to well in this country.

The main issue comes from most Americans being moderates and not liberals (called libertarians now as the definitions have changed) like the founding fathers.

So although I'm sure he's got a good premise and point to make out of all this I doubt it'll really cover things he could actually get deep into and essentially make it a one-sided hate fest. Maybe I should do things like this just to make the point for them haha. Oh well I suppose. But most probably know my opinions of such extremes like Michael Moore. They are good for portraying their side but as someone who can see through all the BS and spin, they don't do much for me.

Bashing capitalism doesn't make you a communist.  If that were the case the majority of Americans would be socialists considering most firmly disagree with the basics of capitalism.

Capitalism and Socialism are two extremes for economy.  There is always middle ground... trust me.

Fantastic. He's a funny and insightful guy and I like his movies. He's passionate about what he believes in and doesn't mind throwing a few pies.

I will enjoy this movie.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Can't wait to see how he totally rewrites history and ignores the fact that by in large it was his party that caused this "robbery".

As always... sane people don't take Michael Moore seriously.  He's a left wing Karl Rove.  A nutjob who if he's every told the truth it was an accident.  His movies are always hilariously inaccuarte and cherrypicked to support his conclusions.

"Fake documentries" are what is killing the documentry seen nowadays.

I thought you were someone who thought Zeitgesit was a ridiculious farce... why would you like anything Michael Moore has done?

He relies on all the same tricks as the author of that documentry.

No he doesn't Kasz. His documentaries are nothing like that and you know it.

And that's all I'm gonna say.

No... his documentires ARE like that.

None of them stand up to fact checking.

Even the more liberal news channels take him to task on it.

I imagine he'll wash over the fact that the bailouts he talks about were infact Democratically lead and blame it on bush... and tie in a few connections with random conservatives and claim they were the reason the bill was written so poorly.

Michael Moore has a long history of telling half-truths, outright lies, and using editing tricks to mislead people to promote his own political agenda. Unlike some documentary film makers you can’t even argue that when he misleads people it is unintentional being that he will splice multiple speeches/interviews together and present them as a single coherent speech/interview.
