Top Ten MUST Buy Games of the Fall
This fall is going to see a glut of fantastic games. What is most impressive is the diversity of genres that are going to produce hits and how rounded out everything is. All consoles are going to be getting system sellers as well, despite some much anticipated games getting pushed back. Here is to hoping you have $600 saved to purchase Hamsterfist’s Top Ten Must Buy Games of The Fall.
10. The Beatles: Rock Band
Release: September 9th
Platform: All
Being a huge Rock Band fan to begin with, this is right in my wheelhouse. It is hard not to love The Beatles, even if they are the original boy band. Getting over that fact, there is also plenty of their later music here. I just wonder how difficult the drums will be. Was Ringo that much of a drumming badass?
9. Brutal Legend
Release: Rocktober 13th
Platform: All
You had me at Tim Schafer. Yes Hamsterfist’s original man crush on a developer is bringing us the ultimate Metal game. Brutal Legend promises to be hilarious and well designed. You will take control of Eddie Riggs (Jack Black is voicing this character) and his numerous allies in a fantasy heavy metal world. Large scale battles and comedy, what else could a gamer need?
8. Gran Turismo PSP
Release: October 1st
Platform: PSP
Why is Gran Turismo PSP but not Gran Turismo 5 on this list? Because on is confirmed and one is just speculated to be out by Christmas. But just because this is the ‘little brother’ Gran Turismo, does not mean it is any less. The car models look impressive, and this racing sim promises to please the hardcore fans. Just don’t play while driving your real car. That could be bad.
7. Forza Motorsport 3
Release: October 27th
Platform: 360
Another racing sim, a different console. This fall is packed with racing sims, and someone is going to lose out. Hopefully it is not Forza 3. Forza 3 may not have the prettiest car models, but there is something to be said on how this series handles the feel of driving. No one else does the tire on the road, weight of the car better then Forza.
6. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Release: Oct 27
Platform: PS3
Insomniac returns with their gadget packed platformer. This time the hero’s of the galaxy will be able to time travel for puzzle solving. Also making an apperance will be a larger focus on space exploration andside missions. Ratchet & Clank rarely dissappoint and A Crack in Time will be no different.
5. Left 4 Dead 2
Release: November 17th
Platform: 360, PC
This might surprise some readers that this is not listed as the number one game of the fall. I am a huge Left 4 Dead and Valve fan, but who isn’t? In Left 4 Dead 2 you will have the same zombie killing mayhem, but with melee weapons, different ammo types and new special infected. I expect to kill another 53,595 zombies this fall.
4. Borderlands
Release: October 20th
Platform: All
So this game changed art style, and all of the sudden it is the new hot thing. Well, so what. I was excited for Borderlands when I first heard about it two years ago. A first person shooter and role-playing game mix, sounds great already huh? Now add in co-op play and loot raiding (There is almost an unlimited amount of different guns.) and this becomes a time/soul sucking machine.
3. Uncharted 2: Among Theives
Release: October 13th
Platform: PS3
The first Uncharted was a mixed bag of great action platforming, but the lack of online multiplayer did not give it much of replay value. Naughty Dog looks to fix this in a balls to the wall mutliplayer component. I doubt you will see many other games offering you competative shooting brewed with action platforming. This Tomb Raider, Gears of War hybrid might just be the run away hit of the fall for the PS3.
2. Modern Warfare 2
Release: November 10th
Platform: All
And yet here we come to the next day one purchase for me. Modern Warfare 2 might just be more of the same, but me lovie some more. The ‘real’ developers of the Call of Duty series will dominate in sales and in my life. My only concern is which system to buy this beast for. (How sweet would zombies be with this game?)
1. New Super Mario Bros Wii
Release: November 15th
Platform: Wii
Surprised? I am too, just a little. But the more I thought about this, the more I realized how much Nintendo again will show everyone just who is king. New Super Mario Bros will EASILY outsell all the games listed above. This is no surprise, I mean the king is back and it is good to be the king.
