It really depends on how the US does this holiday... I think it's highly unlikely, but you never know... didn't Microsoft hit around 900k one week last year?
edit: let us not forget it's still 300 bucks

It would difficult, but not impossible. The problem is NA, which for HD consoles, leans heavily toward the 360. And it's not just a matter of games or price, but mindshare. Markets aren't static, people interested aren't just gonna hold out for years because "it's playstation". Just ask Atari if you don't believe me. The 360 occupies a position in NA (excluding the Wii of course) somewhere between the Xbox and PS2, while the PS3 is the GC equivalent. That mindset won't change with this, at least not by the time this Christmas rolls around. Game preferences are there too. Halo ODST WILL sell more than Uncharted 2, for example, because people here want it. And to play it, they need a 360. It's still a $100 cheaper to get in, and has years of good will (I guess, it depends on the individual perspective but sales don't lie) behind it. A prime example is the replacement of "Xbox" in speaking of these systems instead of the previous "Playstation". Basically, in NA, the PS3 has price, years of relative bad will and reputation, and popular exclusives to overcome.
In EU, it's simpler. Much more of a Playstation region than NA. But again, it has to fight against a console that has become viable in almost all European regions that remains cheaper and basically has an identical game catalogue, though GT5 gives the exclusive edge to PS3. Still, what was once the bum fuck console no one wanted, is now a contender and has been for a year now. That can't help. EU will still swing to the PS3, but MS has more room than they ever had previously to make a comeback.
Japan, obviously chooses the PS3 as its HD system of choice. What that means, I have no fucking idea anymore. Or if it will outsell the Wii. Japan is way too confusing, the only sure things are that PS3 sales will probably hit 100,000+ on FFXIII's release.
It might seem like I'm simply comparing X360 Vs. PS3, but my belief is that for PS3 to hit a million, it needs to be the HD system of choice in NA, and to a lesser extend Europe. If the 360 is still putting up heavy competition, a million is out. There's not enough money in the current economy to keep 2 systems fighting for that same piece of pie.
I agree with you.Japan is Sony,NA is Microsoft the battle is in Europe/Pal..Sony will win here WAIT!!! It's winning here if you see it launched 1 year after and with this sales boost and the end of year it will surpass Xbox...
With the new figures in just from the end of August I now believe it will sell 1m in 1 week... Indeed, it will!
Life is short... It is all about priorities!
