| elmerion said: I hate how analysts keep pushing for price cuts, instead of forecasting they are just saying what they want and delaying sales in the process, even if Nintendo does a price cut, it will be next year, Christmas its at least 2million sales for sure, price cutting is just wasting money, and the Wii is still the best console in overall quality and price, |
Not so anymore, the reason I say this is because with the wii being only 50 cheaper than the "tricked out" version of the 360 and the ps3, this makes the wii look "over-priced" in comparison. The wii was looked at as a bargain at one time but come holiday shopping season and parents look at new technology and the price point across the big three, I think that the ps3 will be seen as the biggest value of the 3. Hd gaming, free online play, integrated wifi, blu-ray playback is just too much to combat with the notion of motion controls. Hell even if you include the arcade in the equation the wii again looks over-priced and archaic versus the HD twins this holiday season (IMO).
wii will have a price cut to stay competitive?
Nintendo on TGS for a shocker?

I wanted to ask: is impossible for Nintendo to have a small, tiny or whatever conference at TGS right? They'll do all what they have to do at their fall conference 2 weeks after TGS?
Just so people are clear, that's 50% down as compared to last August's sales. Performance for the year (January-August sales) is a little under 20% down.
So things aren't quite as dramatic as they sound. Since Nintendo has refused to adjust guidance, they either expect sales to pick up on their own (explosive holiday demand, perhaps), or they have an ace up their sleeve.

What? Wii is down 44% this FY compared to the last one. That's a huge decrease.
The projections are made for the FY, not the calendar year.

Hmm I wonder what you expect to see on the site when you visit?
Maybe titles like dow jones down 3%.
Or maybe something like major run on the dollar today?
Must be me but last time I checked the site was all about gaming.
Silly me.
The Wii will get a price drop in Spring 2010 -- not before.
The holiday season is the strong time of year --- and the Wii has a younger demographic than the other system and a stronger new game lineup (Mario) than last year.
However, Nintendo will NOT make its sales forecast and thus its stock price will fall, despite the fact that will sell the most consoles and make money on each sale.

| Mr Khan said: I still say that a price-cut will come for April, after Nintendo's fiscal year. Any other time wouldn't make sense, unless they did it this month or next month. You don't want to do anything that would slow holiday momentum in the middle of a holiday, and it would be a douchebag move to price-cut immediately after the holidays, so the start of their new fiscal year makes the most sense. |
@BOLD: I think Analyst are doing this now. The more they come out saying that a price cut is inevitable the more people will wait. One only has to look towards the PS3 pricecut & slim rumor/pressure that cause the sales drop prior to the pricecut and slim. =/
