+1 to Desroko, good platform game but still average Mario game.

@ Johnsobas: again preorders are nothing to go by. People who will buy Galaxy will not always preorder. If you interpret preorders you should add instead of substract! Point of comparison Halo3. It had 1 million preorders but sold 3 times more on launch.

ugh, actually yes preorders are very important because they are retail preorders. Japan is a different beast from America where the majority of the people that want the game will buy it on the first day. In Japan when people finish a game most of them will immediately sell it back to the store, especially when it is a game that is only single player. If the preorders are 700k but 1 million people want the game on the first day, the used copies will hit store far before the second shipment will and the sales will be hurt badly. We saw this on FF3 DS in Japan when the second shipment couldn't make it in time and it probably lost at least 200k in sales.

Anyway, with preorders of 700k it isn't possible for galaxy to sell more than 700k in the first week because that is all the supply there is for the first week

If i remember correctly Onna76 who speaks Japanese clarified that those 700k pre-orders are not retailer pre-orders. If that's the case i expect 900k first week, if not, around 500k.

@All the Sunshine haters.

Sunshine by itself was an EXCELENT plataformer... but it had HUMONGOUS shoes to fill (Mario 64), that doesn't makes it a bad game or a bad Mario game.

Super Mario Galaxy will be next.

But RE4, Super Mario Strikers and Metroid Prime will hit 1 mill too, and possibly Sonic and Super Monkey Ball after they have been re-released as budget titles.

I agree with this.  It's not so much that it was a bad game but that it was held up to some really high standards.

Mario Galaxy will do it the fastest and be the ninth million seller. Not sure about the tenth. Maybe RE:4 or GHIII.

Edit: Strikers is also in the running to be tenth. The reason I think Galaxy will do it first is cause it releases in Japan in a couple weeks, and there it will do over half a million in a week. And I think it'll do the same numbers in NA when it releases, so it'll hit a million before the middle of November. Not sure how much Strikers is selling in EU, but it should crack a million during December, I think. Same with RE:4.

Charged will definitely be next.

As for the tenth, it will be a close battle between RE4 and Galaxy and maybe Corruption.

And I also thought Sunshine was a good game. It wasn't as good as Mario 64, but it was still a great game nonetheless.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

Ninjabread man

Sunshine was an absolutely great Platformer. Sunshine was better than any 3D platformer at the time not named Super Mario 64. However, it was not a good Mario game. My reasoning? Lack of level variety. Yeah, there were a couple cool ones like the amusement park and the haunted hotel thing, but overall it had a disappointingly repetitive design. Thankfully that's not going to be a problem at all in SMG.

On topic, in this order:

Mario Strikers Charged
Super Mario Galaxy
Resident Evil 4 Wii
Metroid Prime 3

Games with a shot at it this year:
Manhunt 2
Mario & Sonic
Zack and Wiki (remember it's priced at $40)
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
NiGHTS

Should be some solid sales for the Wii this year. And, yeah, RE4 is a pretty incredible sales story. Capcom's shipping projections were 400K worldwide. They have already SOLD 800K and will sell more than 1 million lifetime. That means at least 1.2 million shipped and 3 times their shipment projections. Pretty obvious why Capcom is supporting the Wii.
