PS3 keeps coming back, I dunno why it's still 8.000.000 away from the competition.....
You're a fool if you think sales will keep up at this pace for long.

i doubt it but you never know

PS3 had the momentum Jan to Aug 08 and 360 had the momentum Jan to Aug 09, so obviously a 9 month YOY comparison will be unfavourable to PS3 but favourable to 360.
However, a year lasts 12 months, so what counts is not your "allow me to narrow the goalposts so I can suit my own purposes" comparison, but instead the YOY data come the end of December.

Why, do you not understand averages? Average doesn't mean "typical", it factors both typical and atypical elements in. So a typical week can be somewhat lower than the averages mentioned in those threads, but the atypical weeks are rare enough that they don't usually bring the average up massively.
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
The gap will narrow, but sony still has to face a media hyped project natal in roughly 1.5 years. Who knows what the state of things will be then.
Low weekly sales of the PS3 for most of 2009 with lots of people holding out for a $299 PS3 price. The mid August announcement by Sony confirmed what almost everyone believed was going to happen. The high first week sales of the PS3 Slim at $299 is just a spike due to increased demand due to people delaying their PS3 purchases.
500k sales for the launch week is not much of a surprise. The proceeding sales weeks will be interesting to see what the new PS3 average weekly sales will be due to the new PS3 price and the new look of the PS3 Slim. 150k weekly sales could become the new PS3 average sales week during non-Holiday weeks.
Last 4 months of this year should see a 50% to 100% increase on weekly PS3 sales for the same period last year. 4 million sales of PS3 in last 4 months of 2008 should increase to 6 to 8 million for last 4 months of 2009. The price cut will increase sales combined with the launch of FFXIII in Japan will increase sales of the PS3.

I think "Sony keeps holding on" is closer to the truth, at least that is what I think anyway.
In all honesty considering the price that the PS3 was at for so long and a year (year and half in some cases) disadvantage I really thought the gap would have been much bigger.
The PS3 is now somewhere it has never been before. It's now "affordable". This is somewhere x360 and wii has been for a while.
This is the defining difference in what has change this gen.
To many people what Sony was charging before was just too much for a console and this worked in Nintendo's and especially MS's advantage.
Yes, only a fool would expect these sales to be same for long regardless of the console, but I think most people really don't believe this will be the case...or so I would like to think.
Well the X360 isn't going to be close to 200K this week that'd be very odd if the X360's sales increase by 60K the same week the PS3 got a price cut, and the X360 had it's Elite price cut last week so the 142K that it sold is the result of it, the sales are going to go down for two reasons, 142K is it's all time high from the price cut and now it's just going to go down, and the PS3 sold 500K, you can bet a lot of people that were going to get a X360 went and bought a PS3. The same thing happened last year, the PS3 dropped quite a bit when the X360 got a price cut.
So the PS3 will end up closing the gap much quicker then 4 weeks, I'm willing to say 2 weeks and it'll be closed (maybe 3 at the most).

Only for people who couldn't bear to look at the numbers in their previous state.
