Forums - Sales - Sony secured the second place this gen?

Natal won't cause a 400% increase in sales, u can quote me on that.

Neither will the Slim.

So far, Sony had a great start with the Slim. 500k is great! But we will have to wait and see what the future will look like.

I do expect Natal to move consoles more sustainable than any price-cut could do.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Ha I predicted 400-500k first week for the slim!

I still don't think they will take 2nd place though.

This isn't a price cut, it's an entire remodel. And since when has a price cut ever been better than software? The only difference is the type of software.

Last week PS3 sales around 100K,  this week sales expected around 500k....That is a (or almost) 400% increase in sales =p.

You say this because of a spike? k

granted it is a massive spike O_O

So a huge first week but it will drop down to around 300k by the second week. Third week would be just above 200k and sell over 200k until sales period when the Ps3 sales should be 100% increase upon last years sales.a good first week sales spike jumping up to 500k.

Reasons why the PS3 slim sold such a high first weeks sales number. $100 price cut and PS3 remodelling to PS3 Slim created a huge increase in demand for the new PS3. A lot of people had delayed their PS3 purchases this year in high anticipation for the long over due PS3 price cut. 1 in 5 of the PS3 Slim first week sales were purchased by existing PS3 owners.
150k in Japan for first week - less than 5% of people who predicted on here got that right. Most people were well off the 500k first week PS3 Slim sales. The average PS3 Slim sales prediction was around 300k to 350k for first week. No where near the 500k first week sales week.

btw, this is just one person's opinion.

500k is a great week for the slim, and it makes the 13 million PS3s from Sony seem more possible. It is also great for the industry after all of the Year to Year decreases. Still I think by October, sales will be back in the 150k a week range, before the big Holiday boost comes. Which is solid, and a big improvement, but probably not enough to get second place.

How pathetic can you guys be (no offense), a year ago you were saying how "PS3 WILL EASILY SURPASS THE 360", then after the 360 got its $199 price, everyone was saying how sony should leave the gaming market all together. Now that the PS3 had its biggest week in its entire lifespan your all saying its going to outsell the 360.

I myself have always predicted a $299 PS3 would dominate the market, and I never stood away from that prediction, after seeing its affects for less than a weeks worth of data in japan, I can still see my prediction hold true. This prediction was made way back in 2007. Again you guys understimate the ps3 slim at $299, then again its all guess mates, we cant decide for other people, whether your a wii fan that is crushed to see this, or a 360 fan just bragging on how it will drop, we dont know what will happen, prediction or no predictions.

All consoles experience a spike after a price cut - that's not interesting.

All consoles reach a new plateau of weekly sales after a price cut - that's interesting.

Until we know the new plateau proper judgement cannot be passed. It usually takes a month for things to settle so we won't know the trend for sure until the end of september/beginning of october.
