My range was 50k-150k so I'm glad I at least picked that right. But was always hard to tell because could never gear shipments. Good first week. However, with Japan lately I really want to be looking pass the first week to see how it does in its 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. Because a lot of things recently have come out strong and then just completely gone right back to normal.
Right now I'm seeing next week PS3 will be int he 75k-100k range. That would actually be really good if it only dropped to half of what it was with these sales. But a lot of things with the PS3 slim are going to be explosive rather than continuous. Unlike the 360 pricedrop a year ago where it started off slow and picked up steam during the holidays. I have expected the PS3 to be the exact opposite. Have that certain group waiting to pick it up first few days and then fade off while new and casual gamers slowly pick it up.
But considering this is Japan it could definitely surprise me. I think what will be good for the PS3 is if it slows down and gets to a steady selling pace of 20k-40k. But we'll see in the coming weeks. Only problem for Sony and the PS3 right now is the lack of big software to justify the system. FF13 is a big one but have to wait til December for that. Other than that (unless GT5 does come out) it's going to be hard to justify a lot of gamers into buying the system this early.
On the other hand 360 and Wii still have to step it up. Even though Wii may have the software going down the line it still has to be competitive with the PS3 in other areas. All I can say is it will be an interesting holiday season.
