This is almost as bad as IGN.

I haven't read the whole writeup, but judging from what was written about the Nintendo and Sony systems, it's pretty clear what kind of gamer wrote this. An uninformed and biased one.

WORD!!!!

This list, while chock full of incredible amounts of fail as chronicled previously (notably by naznatips), DOES HAVE in my opinion one portion that goes below and beyond. A black hole of suckage that makes the rest of the list seem ... a lot less stupid (I can't say smart).

The NES's entry
"Deemed the “savior” of the video game industry and Nintendo’s best selling home console (really) this system really did it for the industry. One, every game had to be given a stamp of approval from Nintendo so things like the porn games on the Atari 2600 would never happen again. Two, it was the best selling console…… ever, up until that point ( then PS1 came out), selling almost 62 million consoles worldwide. Metriod, Mario, Zelda and many other popular franchises had their start here, on the NES. Thanks to this console gaming became popular again and began anew. Although I myself wouldn’t call Nintendo the “savior” of the industry. I mean after all it was only a 2 year crash. But if that’s how everyone sees it then I guess that’s how it is. This is after all just one mans opinion."

1. Nintendo's best selling home console? I know you're excluding current gen from being in the LIST but that doesn't mean you get to ignore the Wii's EXISTENCE.
2. Is the author such a PS freak that he can't even say the NES was the best selling console ever without taking a cheap shot about the PS1 selling more, despite that it happened two generations later? Or is it something else?
3. And then he spends quite a bit of time undermining the NES's accomplishments, apparently because 'it couldn't have been that bad if the NES made the industry recover'.

Overall this entry was full of praise that was either hesitant or which he then proceeded to undermine. When contrasted with the pathetic eagerness with which he praises the PS2, the listwarz-worthy litany of games (even down to "The Getaway" which I frankly don't even recognize), the way he repeats the phrase "quality hardware" like he's trying to convince someone, etc. etc. ... I think it's clear that the auhor felt the need to make the NES sound worse to justify putting it below the PS2, his clear favorite.

Disgraceful. I mean, he's entitled to his opinion, but this behavior is not acceptable -- even if it was unconscious, I think we should reasonably be able to expect to have someone writing these who is capable of overcoming at least the most blatant of fanboy urges.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

Final-Fan, after reading your post, I'm glad I didn't read the justifications and only glanced through the order. Even that was enough to realize the list was pretty poor.

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)
Mobile - Super Mario Run (2017)
PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

PSP above DS = instant fail
I can't even be bothered arguing the other consoles positions

I wonder if those championing the PS2 for #1 will then be pushing for the Wii for #1 when it overtakes the PS2 in total sales
Somehow I think they'll change their tune moving away from total sales being the most important factor

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Was this list supposed to be better than IGN's?

I'd trade SNES with N64.

they should put the ds higher.

...well I liked the list :P

No matter what anyone says the PS2 vastly widen the video game userbase, and deserves to be number 1.

I'd be scared to see where video games would be today if it wern't for Playstation.

(Try not to quote me to much, I know I'm going to get yelled at for this, but thats just my opinion)

First Generation: Very difficult to determine.  Likely very low.

Second Generation: At least 36 million.  Possibly a little higher.

Third Generation (NES): At least 75 million.  Possibly a little higher.  This is a 108% increase over the previous generation.

Fourth Generation (SNES): About 88 million.  This is a 17% increase over the previous generation.

Fifth Generation (PS): About 146 million.  This is a 66% increase over the previous generation.

Sixth Generation (PS2): About 196 million.  This is a 34% increase over the previous generation.

Seventh Generation (Wii): So far 108 million.

It looks to me like both the NES and first PlayStation did more to expand gaming than the PS2.

Nice post, i agree with it completely.
