Ds is way too low for me, but other than that it's a solid list and pretty much in the order that i'd put it

wow worse then ign cause wii should easily be in the top 7 and ds in top 5 and psp in top 10. While SNES is clearly to be in at number 1. PS2 goes at 3 cause nes takes 2nd...

Horrible list. Any list that puts the 64 ahead of the SNES needs to be burned.

PS2 number #1, are you kidding me?

N64 above SNES? Yeah much better...

What makes a gaming console the best is what it brought to video gaming that did not exist (or was overlooked by the vast majority) before. Otherwise it comes down to sales.

Atari brought in transferrable media (the cartridge), PS1 brought in multi-media (CD playback), Dreamcast brought in online, though arguably online was still in the marginal category until XB1 came out, so you could say XB1 = Dreamcast wrt bringing online to console gaming, Gameboy brought in mobile gaming, PS2 brought in motion control (Eyetoy).

Of course it was really PC/home computer that brought all these things to gaming, apart from motion control. So you could say that PS2 represents the only true gaming innovation brought in by consoles. In that respect PS2 does deserve #1 but not for the reasons stated in the OP.

And in respect of real innovation what has this gen brought to the table? Nothing really, it's brought a great deal of refinement and advancement to existing technology, but there's been nothing particularly innovative to arise from anyone. And don't say Natal, Natal still finds it's genesis in the eyetoy of the PS2.

Beloved games, improved graphics, 3-D game design etc etc are all either a matter of opinion or reflective of a natural advancement in technology and the creative freedom it progressively provides.

HA HA HA HA HA HA. I haven't laughed so hard in ages.

Thanks, OP!

Oh, and Microsoft had a motion controller WAY before eye toy, so PS2 brought NOTHING revolutionary to the table. (this is for the above post)

Edit:  Key word in my contraversial statement is "Revolutionary" the PS2 was a great EVOLUTION of the PS1 anda fantastic system.  However, if you say it deserves the spot because it was the only console to introduce something, then you would be wrong.  MS did it first with Freestyle on the PC.

...well I liked the list :P

No matter what anyone says the PS2 vastly widen the video game userbase, and deserves to be number 1.

I'd be scared to see where video games would be today if it wern't for Playstation.

(Try not to quote me to much, I know I'm going to get yelled at for this, but thats just my opinion)

Yeah this was pretty much terribad. Ultimate fail. Massive lose. The PS2 was amazing, and you can even make an argument for it being the best ever, but between the rest of the list being horrible and this line "Now add smoother graphics, quality hardware, a DVD player" this is terrible. A DVD player that broke within a month for 90% of owners, and one of the most unreliable systems in history is "quality hardware?" Yeah bullshit. The argument for the PS2 being the best ever is its incredible library, and nothing else. It's a piece of shit bit of hardware.

Thank you for typing exactly what I was mentally thinking.  I love(d) my PS2, but based solely on the quality of it's library.
