Played a little bit more today.

My wife's reaction was ... bad.

The first time she heard Yuna and Tidus talking to each other, she got up, left the room, and went to go retrieve her noise canceling earbuds. Thereafter, she actually just took her laptop into another room.

Ouch.

Also how is it I go through that whole long-ass Blitzball tutorial and then I don't get to play, damnation people

I understand

FFX is my favorite FF BTW

anyways

so It will pick up once you meet yuna & get to know of where you go........as you leave BESAID & you start fighting enemies with the BEST FF Battle theme ever.....you will know it has become gripping!

Then when you are on the Vehicle it gets REALLY REALLY interesting & EPIC

but the true "gripping nature" comes after you reach the new island

Oh god, do I dare say it, Luca?

This is the true definition of owning.

Let me say, before I start, that this topic is not about any other Final Fantasy. You come in here andd talk about other ones, I'll report you for being off-topic.

So I sat down today to play some FFX. I am now in Besaid. I have met Wakka, and seen a little flashback with tiny Tidus talk about how he hates somebody, I assume his father.

The voice acting, lip synching, and writing are atrocious. That's fine. I can accept that, and it's even charming in the same way that old Godzilla movies, when dubbed, are charming. I don't care about that.

What I want to know is when Final Fantasy X is supposed to get awesome. I am now 90 minutes into it - 90 minutes do not feel as if they have passed, but all right. I'm learning the Sphere Grid. I suspect my characters will be getting very strong before too long from now.

I just want to know when things get really interesting, and when I am going to stop cringing at half the voice actors (everyone so far, except John DiMaggio, is embarrassing).

Just to tell you, the story of FFX is pretty lackluster (and laughable).  However, the gameplay and customization is why its one of the better FF games.  So its pretty much do you want to sit through the lackluster story about a bunch of guys trying to get this ignorant girl to a temple to kill herself, just so you can play a really fun RPG with a good combat engine and customization.

o.O

I think its the most emotional, involved story in any game I've played. Why is FF X getting so much hate in this thread?

Perhaps its yet another 'the church is evil' story centered on a generic 'I'm the villain just because I'm evil' and two main characters who really have very forced emotional sequences.  That's just my take on it.  I never had any perticular fondness for Tidus or Yuna.  I didn't hate them or dislike them, but they never gave me any reason to like them either.  Some sad songs and repeated dialogue sequences with them trying to connecto to each other didn't make me connect to them.  Past FF games did much better with character development.

I found the pot shots at religion refreshing. They weren't afraid to cross the line regarding the idea that maybe what the church preaches isn't what is true/real. Personally, I wasn't too connected to Yuna alone, but found her situation with Tidus commedable. Also, Tidus develops significantly throughout, from a whiny jerk who can't face reality to someone who accepts his fate.

Yeah... uh that's already happened in a Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy Tactics.

Hell in Final Fantasy Tactics Jesus was a freaking spy/demon who wanted to take over the world.

Which itself was taken from the Ogre Battle Series where the Holy Lodis Empire is an evil empire that conquers everybody... and is also the catholic church... what with a pope and all.

For me in after the Blitzball Game in Luca and operation Mihen.
