Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Prime or Metroid Prime 3?

I got the Metroid Prime Trilogy yesterday and I heard that Metroid Prime is rated one of the best games ever (I never played a Metroid game before). So I played that for almost 2 hours and today I decided to play number 3. Probably the best game on the Wii after Super Mario Galaxy. What does everybody else think?

The motion controls make metroid prime 1 even better due to walking and shooting at the same time, because with GC controls you had to stop and aim.

I think MP3 is better. It had all the puzzle solving and platforming, but because it didn't rely as much on backtracking had a much larger and more diverse world to explore.

You should play them all though... might as well play them in order.

It's fantastic. I'm taking my time with it, I've finished the original on the GameCube but it's so much better now (not that it wasn't great then...). I'll be going through the three in order.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

MP is closer to 2D metroid than MP3. MP3 is closer to a shooter.

I preferred MP3. The backtracking and "openness" (something I hate) of MP dampened the otherwise awesome experience for me. Both are treasures though.

I preferred the original, but Corruption is still one of the best games to come out in the past few years.

All three games are some of my all time favourites, but the first Prime game seems the best balanced and over-all best for me. The variety in environments, atmosphere and sense of isolation are fantastic. Plus, it was the first out of the three that I played, so there was a real sense of wonder the first time I played it, particularly with the scanning mechanic. I'd only played Metroid 2 before that, so I'd never encountered anything quite like it.

I usually give an edge to Prime 3. Even giving MP1 motion controls, MP3 has the advantage of being deliberately designed for them, and the result is better immersion and boss battles. Plus the environments in MP3 are just amazing.

I prefer MP1. It felt like a bigger, more open game (mostly because it is).
