Forums - Microsoft - The Xbox 360's RPG line-up really does own.

Doesn't seem great to me. Xobx 360 has no MMOs and SRPGs, and overall the RPG quantity is far below of what PC has.

What about this risen? I haven't heard about it. Who are the developers? and is it more like LO or Dragon age?

Piranha, the developers of Gothic series. It's like Dragon Age kinda. Or even better, think poor man's Oblivion.

Thanks Slimebeast.
Doesn't look too bad at all do they have an official release date.
Somehow the trailer reminds me of when I was building my keep in NW2

The 360 will always have the WRPG Edge over all consoles, but PS3 will most likely end up being the place for JRPG's in HD.

Most RPG's overall all end up on portables now an days though. Not a big fan of WRPG's, but Oblivion was something else, who they make a number 2.

Oct 2nd.

If this is representative for the game in general, I will love Risen - from the VGC hands-on article:

"Risen is an open world RPG coming to the PC and the Xbox 360. The story revolves around strange volcanoes and ancient temples rising from the ground (one of the reasons for the title) ushering deadly creatures and tremors along with them. One of the game’s three factions, The Inquisitors, send a ship to explore the ravaged land, only for it to be destroyed at sea. The player survives the shipwreck and must venture forth on his own while a grand adventure awaits him.

My playtime started soon after the opening shipwreck scene with my nameless character roaming through the wilderness in search of... well...anything at all. There will be no character creation tool at the start of the game - instead the developers want customization to happen as the adventure unfolds using the many items the game has to offer. Armed with only a staff for melee attacks, I had my first taste of combat when I encountered hungry wolves along the way."

The Xbox 360 is the best when it comes to WRPG, the only platform that can compete with it on that department is the PC. Historically they had an advantage since the original xbox already has TES3: Morrowind as a console exclusive and Bioware made KOTOR and JE for them that were xbox exclusive for a while. ANd not to forget.. Fable.

The 360 for a while had Oblivion as a console exclusive and FO3 is considered to be better on the 360 + it still has DLC that is yet to come out on PS3. Right now they still have Mass Effect 1/2 as console exclusives and Fable 2 as a full exclusive with Fable 3 coming in 2010. WRPG who previously only worked on PC are also making 360 versions simply because they only have the resources to work on 1 extra console. This let to 2-Worlds (console exclusive 360 sequel comming in 2010) and next month we will also see Divinity 2 as a console exclusive and the month after that Risen as a console exclusive. Then there is also the console exclusive spacesim/RPG The Precursors comming to 360. And then I haven't even started with the multiplats like Sacred 2, Dragon Age and Gothic 4. I'm sure I missed some aswell but it's save to say that the WRPG are the reason why I got a 360 and why I have never regretted the purchase.

EDIT: I also like to point out that there is Pirates of the Carribean: Army of the damned, a multiplatform WRPG comming in 2010.

Although I don;t give a damn about JRPG's, how the hell did you come up with such conclusion?

Are you talking about crappy Japanese only titles??? Because every high profile JRPG title I know except White Knigh Chronicles, will be on 360 as well.

Please, don't tell me you swallowed the FFXIV exclusivity???

It was an E3 Sony presentation for God's sake. Remember Assassin's Creed???

the first ninety-nine nights sucked and the second one will probably follow the same line.

It's being created by a different Developer I believe

@epinefridis

Crappy Japanese only titles?

You really think that the only JRPG titles ever worth playing are the mainstream games like Final Fantasy?

Oh my, you don't know much about JRPGs do you? These games can look like nothing and end up as something amazing.

Atlus also has a habit of bringing games you otherwise would have thought to never see the light of day in the West overseas. I hope thet do so with 3D Dot Game Heroes.

On Topic:

List is pretty good, personally I hope Mistwalker announces something soon. Fable 3 is 1st day purchase though.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
