The Old Republic is PC only BTW.
| starcraft said: Admittedly the PS3 is starting to catch up in terms of JRPG's. But it is highly unlikely to have anything resembling a quality lead in any meaningful way. All that could change that is perhaps Kingdom Hearts 3 going exclusive. But in terms of WRPG's the PS3 is getting absolutely OWNED!!! |
I don't see how you can say that the PS3 wont have a meaningful lead in JRPG's but then say that the 360 'absolutely owns' in terms of WRPG's.
Exclusive PS3 JRPG's through 2010:
Disgaea 3, Valkyria Chronicles, Demon Souls, White Knight Chronicles, Trinity Universe, The Last Rebellion, Atelier Rorona, 3D Dot Game Heroes, TRINITY: Souls of Zill O'll, Final Fantasy XIV and possibly Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
I am sure I have missed a couple...
How many JRPG 360 exclusives have been announced this year?

In order to have a JRPG lead, the PS3 has some catching up to do. Here is an incomplete list of JRPG's available or coming for the Xbox 360:
Lost Odyssey
The Last Remnant
Blue Dragon
Infinite Undiscovery
Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Tales of Vesperia
Eternal Sonata
Final Fantasy XI
Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess
CuldCept Saga
Enchanted Arms
Phantasy Star Universe
Magna Carta 2
Agarest Senki
Operation Darkness
Diario
Blue Dragon 2 (May have been cancelled, but officially still on)
Final Fantasy XIII
Trinity
Alpha Protocol
Resonance of Fate
What's important to remember though Tombi, is that both our lists have some obscure (in some cases to the point of irrelevance) titles. There is a tendency amongst PS3 fans too (in those few genres where the PS3 is genuinely competitive with the Xbox 360) forget that the Xbox 360 already has a lead, and act as though the generation starts now.
If you'd like though, we can start list and Metacritic wars with WRPG's...

I didn't realise TRINITY was coming to 360.
It is true that both lists contain 'niche' titles, but in terms of quality they count as much as the FF, DQ etc. I for one would take The Last Rebellion over Kingdom Hearts 3 any day of the week. In terms of quality the 360 and PS3 are matched at the moment, but the PS3 will certainly pull ahead going into 2010. Some of those 360 exclusives did disappoint, The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery and to a certain extent Star Ocean 4.
From your list the only announced exclusive yet to release is Magna Carta 2. Hardly a promising horizon for JRPG's on 360. I also didn't list PS3 JRPG's that lacked quality or will only release in Japan, like Agarest: Generations of War.
A far cry from only last year when many, including you, were claiming that the 360 was JRPG console king this generation.
I have already said that the 360 is better for WRPG's.

We are on a sales website Tombi, saying that prominence has nothing to do with the quality-perception is ridiculous.
But even having said that I would contend your notion that we are currently quality equivalent. Certainly Valkyria Chronicles and Demon Souls are helping with catchup, but the fact that a lot of the Xbox 360's awesome JRPG's are getting on in years is clouding a lot of people's memories.
Blue Dragon 2 is unlikely to be vapourware. Also Microsoft were just recently discussing Lost Odyssey 2, which in the hands of a good developer could be an EXTREMELY high quality JRPG.

Correct. You mentioned that TOR is PC only today, I mentioned it two days before in the same thread, and 8 days after the thread was created it's still in the OP...

It isn't.
It's kinda funny that he's counting FF XI and PSU though.
EDIT:
Also, Agarest Senki isn't on 360. Agarest Senki: Reappearance is on both.

Yeah.. Street Fighter sucked so Street Fighter II sucked as well right? And Killzone 1 sucked so Killzone 2 sucked as well.. Hm.. Do I see a pattern here? Oh right.. Past is no guarantee for the future.. Hm.. I wonder if other people even see that..
