Forums - Sony - PS3 slim is noisy

Oh, my goodness. You've made a negative comment about the PS3 slim... I hope you have flame-retardant underwear...

huh? the fat ps3 doesn't even use anywhere near 200w not to talk of 250w. that's jsut the power supply rating. the ps3 slim should be operating at around under 100w.

lol, zomg right?

There is no constant usage, only a maximum power output, thus, all comparisons should be based upon power supply need and availability, rather than some unknown variable estimate of how much power it "usually" uses.

Right?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Perhaps it's just a location thing?

My PS3 is noisy as all Hell at the moment (even louder than my old 360) but I also wouldn't be surprised if it died soon. ;_;

i would consider that suicide.

but no, the ps3 can get loud very loud on a warm room it's normal.

Oh really well it won't be noticeable when playing a game.

Dust, build, fan function, and all that stuff contribute to noise, so yeah, it could be location, if the console is hotter, it is noisier, because the fan has to work more.

You should realize that there's a safety margin involved in setting the "maximum power output" of a power supply, and also that power supplies are more efficient when operating below their maximum possible output.

Put these two things together and it's easy to see why real-life measurements of power consumption are always much below the console's power rating.

If I remember correctly the Wii is rated for 45 W yet all the measurements I've seen show it using around 18 W. If you have some contradicting evidence, please post.

I now officially am back on PSN, because I have purchased a PS3 slim, and I can currently tell you, it makes no noise at all, and Im DL'ing like 20gigs worth of data lol

mM

Its only noisy when the disc is seeking. Otherwise, its DEAD SILENT. When I say that, I mean like...standing 2 feet away you can't even hear the fan going. Also, heat isn't a problem. The rear of the casing gets warm but not nearly as hot as my 60GB did.

I can't hear the thing when it is on, I even ran it beside my trusty 60 gb and it was way quieter. I think these are just more jealous fanboys who "still" cannot afford the ps3 (really mad because it can do just about everything LOL.) One poster said something about heat displacement and that is correct, as long as heat is being displaced properly then having it seem "hotter" is a good thing (components well generate energy i.e. heat and it must passed through the exhaust system i.e. vent via fan so that it can dissipate.)

You have two PS3s. damn.
