Well I have a slim for christmas already bought, so I'm sure it will be fine.

I can't hear the thing when it is on, I even ran it beside my trusty 60 gb and it was way quieter. I think these are just more jealous fanboys who "still" cannot afford the ps3 (really mad because it can do just about everything LOL.) One poster said something about heat displacement and that is correct, as long as heat is being displaced properly then having it seem "hotter" is a good thing (components well generate energy i.e. heat and it must passed through the exhaust system i.e. vent via fan so that it can dissipate.)

My new phat is quiet as a mouse, and cool as a cucumber.

That said, it's a new 80gb, so it is much better all around than the early models in every area.

All those PS3 comparisons use launch phats to make the slim look good. Compared to a brand new phat its power usage difference is marginal, and the slim is louder and hotter.

Power consumption is "marginal"? Which other models have comparable power consumption compared to the slim?

You see, Sony and their fanboys use launch models for their comparisons to pitch you on buying a slim. They conveniently forget, in their speed tests, that Sony released a new model of phat last year that was much, much better than launch models.
