With me taking them out less than 20 times a year it took me maybe 3-4 years to get really used to it with soft contacts (rigid ones are not a problem, they are really easy to take out and you don't have to pretend you're pulling on your eyeballs).

Basically you hold your eye open with the two middle fingers, look up and then squeeze your (dry) thumb and index finger over the contact to take it out.

First couple of times it took me almost half an hour (and that's after years of rigid contacts) and by the end of it I looked like having gone through the funeral of every single person I care about. Now it takes me maybe a minute to replace both.

Well I fucking hate contact lenses because they'll eventually go dry, but they're nothing to be afraid of. IDK about hard ones, but soft ones your finger doesn't even touch the eye, and it's just the really soft and liquidy lens that touches it. You don't feel anything. It sounds scary when you describe it, but even when I first put them on, I didn't really feel scared, just clumsy.

Yeah.. you don't actually touch your eye. It's just about getting used to your finger being half a mm away from it XD
With hard/rigid ones all you do is pull to the side (like you're trying to look really asian) and look to the other side at the same time. So your finger is close to your eye only when you put them in (but on the other hand you sort of need to take them out and put them back in almost every day).

Mostly it's about getting over the reflex to jerk away when something gets so close to your eye.

edit: It's quite difficult going back to glasses after you're used to contacts. Couple of months ago I didn't order my contacts in time and had to spend almost a month with glasses on. After falling asleep without taking them off a couple of times I kind of got used to them being the last thing before I go to bed and the first thing in the morning, but half of the mornings I felt very stupid when I splashed them with water trying to wash my face.

ah.. thanks guys, i'll maybe consider it in the near future. i feel geeky with my glasses on, so i only wear them when i absolutely have to - gaming, tv, reading sometimes, college... my sight isnt teerrible, so its never been urgent

I agree with this. It is extremely annoying when they dry up. Your eye itches, and you just want to get it out, but you can't unless you use the whole bottle of solution to get a tiny drop in your eye. Good thing though, out of the year I have been using them, it only has happened at probably 4-6 times at the most. As long as you follow the instructions you should be fine. Otherwise, if you don't listen, you can have troubles like eye infections or cornea getting ripped (not as dangerous as it sounds, but I heard the pain is horrible.)

Nice. I also have a problem with my eyes but it can't be corrected by using glasses. Fortunately it's only one of them and I can see perfectly from my left eye.
