Well walking into Game yesterday in Plymouth was good to see a PS3 say £299. However, 2 people looking at it stated it has not got good games. I didnt know these guys just listening to their conversations. Also although I own 360 I think it's wrong that the staff there are telling people that they should get wii or 360. Once I heard a staff member say to a guy that it was a pointless purchase. Thats pretty bad in my eyes. People should make their own choices! It will have some good games of there own merrit.
Not exactly. Remeber that a lot of people want some info before thay buy a product, that's why they ask for someone's opinion. Therefore he didn't say it as astore clerk but as an individual. Hell he might have said that the Wii is a waste of time and no one could say a bad word about it. But he was right that it is a pointless purchase as of right now. The good games are going to appear later on, right now there aren't any killer games that that you couldn't buy on the xbox360. Wii is in a league of it's own right now, so no point in bringing it into the pointless/not pointless arguement.

Sorry m8 disagree. It's a valid point. Advice would be: at the mo the games are so so. But 2008 has some cracking titles plus if you want HD vids it has Blu ray. Not just kicking it in the teeth. Also if someone told me to buy a wii 6 months ago and I got it home I personally would have been dissapointed. I personally think the time for me to get a wii is this christmas and i'm glad I waited. On the PS3 front it depends on which games remain exclusive. GT5 isnt a clause for me cause I have FM2. So we will see.

GGE: If the only reason you were going to buy a PS3 was to play PS2/PS1 games, why the hell don't you just buy a PS2.

I'm sure you'd save a few pennies. Just a few.

Ahh.. because they look like sh*t on a LCD TV and my PS2 is broken as well and don't feel like waisting money on a PS3 and a PS2.

Backward Compatibility was the PS3's greatest justifier. Blu-Ray, who cares. PS3 games, I can wait for more and better ones to come out. What I really want though is a reliable and well built system to play my PS2 and PS games on. The PS2 is not well built, it is rickity and will fail, most places don't even repair them anymore because just too many are broken from poor parts and manufacturing. People want something that can continue the legacy of their game collection, not something that tries to smugly talk down to you about how BC was "so last gen".

BC is the only reason I would have ever bought a PS3.

Then buy a PS3 with BC for even less than it was before!!!!

They are not going to completely eliminate a version of the console with BC without introducing a better one.

The 80 gig still has BC, any worthwile game will be supported.

Why would you ever buy a PS3 if BC was the only reason you would have gotten one, just use a PS2

You amaze me with comments like this., Truly incredible

 Well said :)

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

Just so everyone knows, the upconversion of PS2 games is not as spectacular as you might hope. Most HDTVs have their own "upscaler" built into the hardware to convert the source image into the actual native display resolution. As long as you have the correct cabling (ie. component), it won't look significantly worse than the upscaled PS3 output. The PS3 does support a "smoothing" effect for PS2 games which does make a bit of difference to the output image, but again, it isn't as great as you might hope.

Well as the Wii is the same price this christmas it would have made no difference if you had bought it earlier and got no games. (unless you bought it at launch....weren't some of the early controller having trouble connecting?)

however if you want BC then now-christmas is a good time to buy a 60G PS3.
If you are not bothered about BC then it's probably best to wait till the next 40GB price drop, by which time there will be a number of games many people want for PS3, (i would guess the next price drop is quite a way away, so probably after GT5, which 70% of EU PS3 owners will want)

Well I did want GT5 until FM2 blewevery other GT game away in terms of realism. And so far GT5 doesnt look good in terms of realism. And I'm EU.

Well, i'm talking about Europe so tell me, just how much of Europe gives a damn about HD ? that 5-8% of the whole EU population? Why bring the Wii up? It's not about it that we're talking here. About recieving advice from store clerks, what's the problem? You assume, that that the clerk only said: "No, the PS3 is a piece of crap, don't you even go near it."  That you don't know. I have never seen any clerk that would actually go off like that. Better yet, if you ask a clerk for his individual thoughts on a product, which i myself always ask, you gain some perspective. They almost always explain why they would recommend this or another product. It's not about that it's wrong for the clerks to advise their clients in this form, it's about that we don't know how they will express their feelings for the products.

Long i stood there

Wondering

Fearing

Doubting.

*~Onna76~* - Then you go out and get one of the 'remaining' b/c consoles. If you live in the UK it's only £50 more, plus you get more USB ports, memory readers and 2 games.

Oh, and upscaling on the PS3 is overrated, I can't even tell the difference when playing my PS2 on my HDTV on when playing a PS2 game on the PS3 with upscaling. Except that you can force the picture to take up the whole screen, which looks streched.
