Forums - Sony - SCEE Clarifies PS3 Install Base Maths

MS: "We count installed base differently to (SCEE). We count the number of units in the hands of consumers."

Sony: "We calculate our install base by 'sell through' and have done for the last four years I believe"

"We classify 'sell through' as the number of units consumers have actually purchased from retail. 'Sell in' is the number of units we've sold to retail."

Im not getting into it with you Mike. I must resist.

Resist to what? Can't even handle me entirely quoting 3rd party sources?

I thought as this is a sales website, this can be interesting information which can prevent fanboy flamewars. IMO clarity on the issue is good.

One thing i dont get is why SCEE doesnt count units sold in Serbia. They cover Bulgaria, Bosnia, Albania...and even Kosovo(which was Serbia for over 1000 years unitl 2008)...all of which have smaller GDP and income per families.

Are they afraid serbs will commit war crimes with PS3?

@ disolitude

Maybe they are included with the data of another country. Do they have headquarters there?

Yes, it does seem a bit strange with countries like Liechtenstein and Andorra listed.

I think it's pretty clear that SCEE is a bunch of evil liars trying to make themselves look better than they are, while MS has taken up residence at the vatican and their word should be taken as gospel.

I don't think so. I mean they list Montenegro, Macedonia, Kosovo and Bosnia all of which are smaller ex Yugoslav republics. None of them are in EU as of yet...

Most likely they don't have tracking there, but are still selling it...

I don't get how they could know how many the consumers have purchased.

Sounds like MS and SONY use the same numbers from the quote.
