PS3 will outsell PS2 by the end of this generation. PS3 will sell 2bil or more worldwide. Sorry Xbox fanboys, I love to see your tears that Sony is dominating again. Hahahahahaha

IF they use Cell or Blu-Ray in the next console, that WILL still be recouping, then profiting off of, the money they spent initially. Blu-Ray sales -- players and disc -- are also contributing to this. |
Or more likely, competitors will copy the best of the features in their products nullifying any advantage. Intel has sucessfully used this strategy for decades.
Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Its not possible. The PS2 was selling twice as more as the ps3 was during its 3 year of release.

The Cell will not insure that the PS3 will last longer than the PS2. The Cell will likely provide a good base for the PS4.
What Sony needs to do is realize that they can't afford to bankrupt their developers with difficult to program consoles. They need a really good abstraction layer--such as those that exist for high-end graphics cards--to lower the cost of building high performance apps on their consoles. MS seems to get this with their developer kits, although even MS could do better than what they've done so far. MS and Sony also need to build tools that will make it easier to create the high-resolution textures, artwork, etc. that HD console gamers now expect to see.
The real challenge for consoles now isn't leapfrogging the competition performance-wise... it's making games development practical again. The steep learning curves for every new generation have to go, otherwise the game producers aren't going to survive.
