I can't believe how arrogant they are being. The consumers and retailers will decide how long the Ps3 is in the market place for NOT Sony. If retailers refuse to stock the Ps3 because they need the shelf space when next gen consoles launch then the Ps3 will no longer be stocked no matter how long Sony decide they are going to manufacture the Ps3 for. Especially if they are still in last place.

10 year life cycle seems very likely to me (maybe with a PS3 3.5 down the road). Beating PS2's lifecycle, maybe so but depends on how long the PS2 is going to be on the market and how the market develops from there on (especially regions of less influence at this point).

Sony can always release PS3 in the small market countries after 10 years to extend the lifecycle of it...

this of course will happen. If anyone thinks Sony or M$ will make another system anytime soon your wrong. And if nintendo makes one it will be a little weaker then the ps3. Nintendo will never use specs that drive the cost of the system higher then 250-300 bucks. Sony and M$ do not need to update for at least another 7 years because of this. They just need casual games and people will come. also the hardcore will always stay for sonys and M$ 1st party offerings so software sales will only go up as hardware prices go down and install bases go up. Sony and M$ has lost to much money to start a new gen and software sales have not started to even make up for the loss of money both companies have taken.

Lastly even if the ps4 does come out in 4-5 years we all know sony will support the ps3 (and of course 3rd parties will) for a couple years after the new system came out. Xbox and ps3 will have a 60 million plus insatall base before any next gen system drops and 3rd parties will make games for it as long as they sell.

Not impossible, but still unlikely.

I expect another real "slim" PS3 though soon, much slimmer than the one we have now and with the power brick external.

well 1st off we dont know who is right as i cant read the future and neither can you. Second i said they do not need to UPDATE their systems because nintendo will never beat them in specs. So in 4 years we can see a 360 plus. but we will not see a true next gen system for a while. the excat time i dont no but each new system will be a "plus" like the Gamecube to the wii.

Why would it just be a minor upgrade? No way in hell MS or Sony are going to wait 6-8 years after their last console and release just a minor upgrade. The graphic technology will have jumped to greatly by then to just release a minor update.
