I am not sure what the measurement is to determine if it worked or not. But assuming that "it doesn't work", Sony will focus on starting the next generation early.

I agree with the 3rd party support not sure I would agree with a PS4 if they do not make a profit from this generation especially with the advent of products such as On live (Now in public Beta).

Onlive is still a good couple years too early, at least in america. There is no way that can replace the millions of sales consoles currently enjoy right now. Despite not needing epic bandwidth it still will need better than 56k speeds and there are still a significant number of people who have zero to very limited internet.

^ I agree if we are talking about today but I was talking with regard to a PS4 which should be at least 2 years away probably more.
That said you only need 1.5mb connection to benefit from standard gaming it is the HD requirements which are some way off but then the current broadband numbers may be sufficient to sustain this system.
I would love to see a proper demo of this in action.

the US will be the hardest for sony to win but i think Japan and Others will be largely overtaken by the PS3 compared to xbox and not compared to the wii. The xbox360 really has a bad name in France(where i used to live) and probably most of the other European and world territories. This is because the rest of the world believes more in quality and would rather have one thing for a long time rather than having to replace it almost all the time. Also i think Microsofts move to a more reliable Xbox360 could hurt its marketshare because less people will be buying a new xbox to replace a rroded xbox.

ALOT of people bought another xbox after the first one RRoDed, i remember a story about a guy who bought three on the first day.
Remember the others figures before the arcade sku, im pretty sure they were largely in favor of PS3
Yes and Japan IS Japan so the PS3 will outsell 360 there, dont try to forget that.
and i think it is a failure if it doesnt outsell the 360 by a good 20k every week for a year.

I think it's fairly likely the slim/price will give PS3 the edge in Others vs 360 over time, particularly when GT finally lands, GoW3, etc. I think 360 will remain dominant choice for many US gamers. I think the MS price cut and secure supply of games, plus its huge acceptance in US, will keep it on track overall. I think it will also do well in Others even though it will slip very slowly behind PS3 by the end of the gen. I think it will continue roughly as is in Japan but will struggle, unless inordinate amounts of effort are made (either by selling the console at a silly price, or paying for excessive levels of RPGS, etc.) to gain much further traction in terms of increasing base weekly demand. There are a lot of variables involved, and they vary by market of course, which is part of the fun, but I could see this going in lots of different directions. In the end though, I think the core elements of this gen are looking more fixed - big comeback by Nintendo whatever happens, great improvement by MS vs Xbox and definate wobble, by Sony, stabilized somewhat during the gen. Still, next year when Natal and the Wand hit we can watch everything go back up in the air again (maybe). |

lol actually that has stopped. Let me refresh your memory, the 360 has two sku's, one for 199 which really costs something like 350 once you get a hardrive and xbox live, and another for 299. The Ps3 is 299 so that means the 360 is no longer cheaper and more affordable.
