Forums - Nintendo - I'm about to commit Nintendo blasphemy

Bought Metroid Trilogy two days ago ... and I regret the purchase. I loved Metroid Prime, and beat the game on the GC. Rented Prime 2, labored through it, and never beat it as I sent it back (Money was tight, and Gamefly wasn't a necessity) I of course played and own Prime 3 on the Wii, and had a blast. Since my memories of the Prime series are good ones, I could not pass up three games in 1 that would allow me to play with the Wii remote.

Though as I walked out of the store, I remember the control scheme for the original game. How you would often have to switch weapons on the fly to fight enemies. They did away with this in Prime 3, by making all weapons stackable. Since we had no second stick to go to to easily switch weapons. I wondered if they would do that in the original game. They didn't. Instead we're supposed to press the - button and aim on the appropriate part of the screen to access what we want. That's how it is when I want to scan, press minus then the top portion of the screen. I assume the same setup is used for weapons, but I currently only have the first arm cannon. Intuitive, it ain't. But it does kinda grow on you, I guess. But all I have to do is scan right now. Once I have other option on the screen, and I'm in the heat of battle, I imagine I'll be making mistakes.

So I'm still on Tallon IV, barely away from my ship, and I'm about ready to give up. Maybe try the second game. I dunno. The Wii remote isn't as fun as it was in Prime 3. The controls are spot on, it's not that. I'm thinking it's the game. The once game of the year, and the game I loved, seems ... old. OR just plain not fun. I wonder if I'll feel the same way with Prime 2, or 3 if I decide to play it again. I don't know. I'll attempt to continue to play the first game, maybe once I get deeper into it, I'll remember why I loved it in the first place. Might be like Zelda games, I love them to death, but I HATE the tutorials they make you go through at the start of every game. It's not until you get deeper into the game that it gets really fun. I'm hoping that's the case with Metroid.

Maybe after you've finished the game you should revisit this thread and let us know what you decided in the end.

I was a little irked by the changes. There was a certain, twitchy nature to the old game with the old scheme. Faced with a set of three Beetles? Click L three times to rapid fire and switch between them, killing all three in about a second. Now you have to think about what you're doing and aim. Same with the ability to sort of OCD-switch through beams, that's gone too.

It doesn't disrupt the flow of the game, but it certainly feels different.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Prime just did not age well.

I loved MP1, MP2 was ok, MP3 was good, but I dunno, maybe its my lacking a connection to sci fi, but Metroid games never were high on my list. Maybe I just havent played one in a while and forgot how good they were. Metroid games have never been a "must own" for me, unlike Zelda games.

I have yet to get this game but I am still getting it no matter what.

So far pretty dissappointed myself, I really don't love having to hold the Wii-mote pointed at the screen the entire time. This is my very first time playing prime for me, and so far not so much greatness. I've not been enjoying the Wii first party titles so far, Twilight Princess has been exceptionally average, SMG was decent to good. I've been pretty let down by Nintendo for a while now.

woah there did you say the GOTY SMG was decent....clearly you have different opinions than mos of the gaming world...I respect you opnions but seriously SMG was the best this gen...

and Twilight princess was like Halo 3 except better. I mean Halo 3 was the worst in the series and to me TP was not the worst but not the best....

I have never played the prime series either and so can't wait to get my copy of Trilogy.

Yeah, we have different opinions for sure. I am not a platformer guy anymore, so as good of a platformer SMG was (hated the waggle spin attack tho) it's still not going to feel awesome to me.
I actually love Halo 3, but I never played 1 and 2, so it's my first Halo. I prefer my Zelda like Link to the past or Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass.
Who knows, maybe I'll be able to get into MP too, but so far not so much.
So far the best game I've played on my Wii would be Wii Sports or RE4.
BTW the best game for me this gen is Mass Effect, if that tells you anything.

yeah we sure do have differentopinions after all i think halo 3 sucked hola 1 was best then halo 2 which was okay and halo 3 let me down.
