Bought Metroid Trilogy two days ago ... and I regret the purchase. I loved Metroid Prime, and beat the game on the GC. Rented Prime 2, labored through it, and never beat it as I sent it back (Money was tight, and Gamefly wasn't a necessity) I of course played and own Prime 3 on the Wii, and had a blast. Since my memories of the Prime series are good ones, I could not pass up three games in 1 that would allow me to play with the Wii remote.
Though as I walked out of the store, I remember the control scheme for the original game. How you would often have to switch weapons on the fly to fight enemies. They did away with this in Prime 3, by making all weapons stackable. Since we had no second stick to go to to easily switch weapons. I wondered if they would do that in the original game. They didn't. Instead we're supposed to press the - button and aim on the appropriate part of the screen to access what we want. That's how it is when I want to scan, press minus then the top portion of the screen. I assume the same setup is used for weapons, but I currently only have the first arm cannon. Intuitive, it ain't. But it does kinda grow on you, I guess. But all I have to do is scan right now. Once I have other option on the screen, and I'm in the heat of battle, I imagine I'll be making mistakes.
So I'm still on Tallon IV, barely away from my ship, and I'm about ready to give up. Maybe try the second game. I dunno. The Wii remote isn't as fun as it was in Prime 3. The controls are spot on, it's not that. I'm thinking it's the game. The once game of the year, and the game I loved, seems ... old. OR just plain not fun. I wonder if I'll feel the same way with Prime 2, or 3 if I decide to play it again. I don't know. I'll attempt to continue to play the first game, maybe once I get deeper into it, I'll remember why I loved it in the first place. Might be like Zelda games, I love them to death, but I HATE the tutorials they make you go through at the start of every game. It's not until you get deeper into the game that it gets really fun. I'm hoping that's the case with Metroid.
