Aside from the internal programming difficulties that will continue to give developers a hard time, Sony is finally back in track with their final marketing situation of PS3:
- They dropped the price drastically, which should have been the initial, in which, it would easily challenge Wii and possibly dominate the market.
- The bulky design has finally been slimmed down. Many people are turned off by the heavy-weight console, one of the biggest so far in history (They gotta learn how to design efficient, Sleek and economic consoles from Nintendo). The final console is alot more efficient and smaller.
- The unnecessary parts have finally been trimmed down, like Linux installation, shiny surface, or a 2 extra USB ports etc which do nothing but inflate the costs, and/or confuse the consumers.
- They were confused and confusing, finally made their minds about several issues like ps2 compatibility etc.
- They changed their bloated minds to a more modest stance, clear from the change of logo "playstation 3 to ps3".
In short, with $300 price, and bluray, wi-fi, free internet, cheap hard drive compatibility, better first party exclusives, a much lower fail rate, and possibly a longer life (both due to greater potential and Sony's ongoing support on previous gen. consoles), Playstation 3 seems like a Much better choice now.
Xbox 360 still has advantages though... It still has...
- a greater library of games,
- a greater number of games in production (especially because of proximity to pc development, and easier programming)
- a better online service overall (although ps3 has better and more original aspects)
- a more affordable introductory option (arcade)
- a more popular situation in some countries (like America)
- a more hardcore and loyal fan-base
