Batman AA sells more on Xbox 360 in UK; tops charts

Batman Arkham Asylum

Batman Arkham Asylum tops the UK All Formats Chart for Eidos.

Batman Arkham Asylum is Eidos' biggest UK All Formats number one since the year 2000 when they released the Who Wants to be a Millionaire video game.

The sales were split in favour of the Xbox 360. Despite the latter's exclusive playable character of The Joker (one of the best features of the game in our opinion), 55 per cent of sales went to the Xbox 360 and 45 per cent to the PlayStation 3.

Then again, this is actually a very close sales split considering the installed base of Microsoft's console is almost twice as high as Sony's PS3 in the region.

Nintendo's Wii Sports Resort drops to second place, with Codemasters' Ashes Cricket 2009 not far behind at third.

Bethesda Softworks new expansion pack for Fallout 3 makes a surprise appearance at number 20.

hmm....Its closer, but I would have hoped for the PS3 version to sell more! (it deserved to anyhow)!

Didn't expect nothing difference to be honest, I'm guessing things will be more in the PS3's favour in NA.

Ohh and the title is a bit decive as it hasn't sold 10% more! If the PS3 version sold 10% more it wouldn't have sold 45%vs55%!

That's surprising to me, actually. With the install base I'd have expected a bigger percentage for 360. Ratio wise that's a great result for PS3 - wonder how much was down to The Joker? None, some, a lot?

Great game BTW (IMHO).

Sounds like great sales for Batman : AA in total, which is good, as I'd really like to have a sequel.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

@johhny

but the difference is 45% vs 55%

so the xbox 360 version did sell 10% more, right

Nope - that's not how percentages work. 10% more is 10% of the other number - i.e. if the PS3's 45% was 100 units, 10% more is 10% of 100 - i.e. another 10 units - get it?

Right now we know the percentage split - but not how much more empirically 360 sold as we need the actual sales number to see that.

Say if the PS3 sold 10, the 360 therefore sold 11 according to that 10%.

Does not equate to 45% vs 55%.

Thank you mr Reasonable!

@reasonable

ok I kind of get it, but not completely

{this is very embarassing considering I got an A for maths at as-level}

so we can't really say by what % it sold more unless we know the unit sales

Not really. We know the sales split - 360 got 55% PS3 45%. But the amount more will depend on the actual units. You could plug in lots of different numbers and still have 55% and 45%

For example:

360 sells 55 units, PS3 45 units and 360 sells 10 units more
360 sells 110 units, PS3 90 units and 360 sells 20 units more

Don't worry - I've got Physics, Mathematics and Statistics qualifications and I mess up percentages sometimes. Everyone does in my experience - I've even seen (briefly) some MIT Phd mathematicians have to correct themselves regarding percentages.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

@reasonable

ok I completely undertand that now

thanks!
