Cheap price with atleast 1 TB of HD, 10x of Memory, and atleast get a better GPU than the highest end GPU avail for pc today.

I wonder will any of the next gen consoles drop the selling hard copies of games alltogether and go for exclusively digital distribution?
Cut out stores like Gamestop alltogether.

I don't see why it isn't possible. Pc games of today run at resolutions above 1080p as the standard for high end cards. By the time I expect the next generation consoles to be released, todays high end should be just in the right area with what would be put into them. This is all assuming next generation consoles get over thier memory limits. Even then though, it might not happen in most games because of 1080p adoption on the TV front. |
Its entirely possible. The PS3 and X360 can do 1080p now. Its the studios that are having trouble making games with native 1080p resolutions. My hope is that the render farms become low cost enough that 1080p can become a standard for most/all games.
I think that unless these companies change their stance, console will become more like PCs. Because of this, I can see there being graphic changing settings in games next generation. I guess while this allows the people who don't care much about fluidity as much as eye candy, and vice versa have their priorities, but it isn't something I want to see. So there might even be options where you can choose if you want 720p or 1080p(that is provided you support them.)

There isn't much need for graphic settings in console games. PCs can have hugely varying performance, but a PS3 is a PS3. The only variable is the screen which the hardware can automatically detect for downscaling. PS3 and X360 already do this when you use HDMI vs composite/component.
@dharh I agree. I meant the most basic of basic settings, like resolution changing. Some people prefer performance over eye candy and vice versa, and that would allow everybody to be happy. Also Sony and Microsoft seem to like the idea of making consoles more and more like PCs.
ill expect it to be more like the vista to windows 7 transition, performance upgrades that includes improvements such as gameplay (motion controls for all systems) and being full 1080p for all games since we can expect every1 will probably be buying hdtv's in the next few years. and with the growing popularity of the internet, the ability to buy games online would require a huge hd capacity (im on with the 1 tb idea)

Above I'm a proud Gran Turismo fan, not a Sony fanboy, and now a proud 360 owner, but sharing xbox live accts ATM
End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.
Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)
End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):
Wii: 81 mil 360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil
next gen will be the beginning of ugradeable consoles (not that i like it)
720p for all games will be standard. Want 1080p? Get the ram 'n' graphics upgrade.
New games don't run in 1080p anymore? Get the newer ram 'n' graphics 2 upgrade.
Seriously?
No console game comes close to looking like Crysis. The best looking console game, Killzone 2, runs at 30fps, lags, and has no splitscreen.
When a game with graphics BETTER than Crysis is running at 240fps with four player splitscreen, I'll admit graphics don't need to get any better, and we can move into 3D and maybe holograms.
EDIT: Not to mention only a few downloadable games run in native 1080p. And that the PS3 launched at $600.

I believe that the next 360 might come without a physical media, or a format like the HD-DVD.
The online distribution will be pushed further and we still have to see what Natal will bring.
For the rest, I don't agree with your comment because that strategy to push a heavily-features-packed-plateform with a new media is a typical Sony move. This is what they do, electronics. And so far, they wasted tons of money on it... IMO it is an outdated business model. And about its performances... well... it is on par with what the 360 proposes (same core architecture).
Nintendo will join the HD train for sure but this is not were the added-value of Nintendo is.
Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
