Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Prime Trilogy on Metacritic

What I found most interesting is that the 1UP review did not read like a B+ review.

It reminded me of the time in grad school when I got a paper back with no other comments than:
"Good Job. 85."

The grade did not match the comments. However, I do not expect the review to get the same outcome as my paper (an upward regrade).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Definitely worth 92 and I personally think its worth 95.
Reason is because its 3 phenomenal full length games that still hold up against the test of time. The gameplay found in Prime 1 and 3 are still better than most FPS games out today. I haven't played Prime 2 yet but Prime 1 and 3 have the best combos of action, exploration, and puzzles that are possible in a FPS in my mind. While it may not have the best of one thing it has a very nice blend of everything which provides a complete experience. Keep in mind that I have all platforms and that the FPS genre is my favorite.

I would like to see a better tutorial level than the one in Prime 1. Retro should be proud and I am excited to see their next project!!

I think they all aged fantastically, and since I got MPT, I've been amazed at how playable it is. I'm currently sitting at 68% in MP1, and I fully intend to 100% each game before moving on to the next.

That doesn't happen to me often.

Probably not, because the first MP was revolutionary and of course it isn't anymore seven years later, so this little score bonus from back then is no longer valid. On the other hand the new controls improve the game.

Overall the fairest way would be a score that settles somewhere in the middle of the three individual games, because while there is nothing revolutionary about them anymore, it's still a package of three great games for the price of one. I don't see how someone could justify to give MPT a lower score than each individual game. They aged very well, even more so with the updated controls.

Even the original has aged well?  I was reading the thread about differences and saw that there were a few minor graphic improvements too.

As dtewi already asked, are you saying this is a good or a bad thing?

Obviously it is a good thing if they made a few graphic improvements here and there. Complaining about that would be as silly as saying that the games should have kept the Gamecube control schemes. If there's a possibility to update a classic in a good way, it should be done. It only makes the game better.

Hm... leaving out the "a" changed the whole meaning of that sentence.  Woups.

Anyway, you didn't answer my question.  Has the original MP aged well?

The value of them overall doesn't factor in. It usually doesn't with compilations, or else it would be too hard to objectively work with them.

Yes, it did. Last time I played it (two months ago), it was still as great as ever. Well, there was one thing that bothered me. It didn't play as fluent as Corruption, so I am really looking forward to MPT in which this issue has been fixed. Obviously the issue didn't exist prior to Corruption's release.

I guess I'll get MPT then.  I've been kind of on the fence, but it'll be much easier to have a full discussion on it after playing it.

Thanks everyone!

Prime 1 has aged exceptionally well. I beat the Trilogy version with 100%. The game itself still lookos amazing, and the lighting system in particular still blows my mind.

What youll notice in MPT over the GC is undated textures. A lot have been replaced with higher res models, and it makes the game look much better (youll easily spot the difference between those that have been replaced, and the original textures). In fact right now im torn between whether or not Echoes looks better than Prime (in MPT). Echoes doesnt have the updated tectures or bloom, but the core game has neat glossy effects and more detailed character models.

I think a 92 is a very underwhelming score. Personally i wouldnt give this anything lower than a 95. Not quite a perfect score since there is absolutly no new content (huge lost oppertunity imo), but the games are incredible.

@Voltaire Echoes had bloom already, that is why it wasn't added.
